Division Information
PACCAR’s Information Technology Division (ITD), located in Renton, WA utilizes cutting-edge technology to provide systems development, consulting, voice and data communications services to the entire Corporation, which has high visibility in the technology sector.
The Role
We are seeking a Cloud Engineer to build, deploy, operate, sustain, and grow the software systems that build, scale, monitor, secure, manage, and automate PACCAR’s cloud services. The Cloud Engineering team within Digital drives the stability and sustainability of next-generation systems and discovers innovative ways to scale and operate them reliably.
In this role, you will work with Systems and Software Engineers to create proactive engineering mechanisms that will enable your team to manage the health of cloud services, distributed server fleets, and the software stacks in Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will deploy and monitor the systems and automation to ensure that tooling is working optimally. You will use trends and metrics to find opportunities for improvements within existing frameworks, tools, and processes to continuously improve systems.
The ideal candidate will have a technical background, be detail driven, and have excellent problem-solving abilities. You will be comfortable designing, building, deploying, and operating. You will also handle systems functionality, performance, and configuration issues. The Cloud Engineer will show sound knowledge of Linux, containers and shell scripting concepts and theory and have some experience taking part in systems deployment and support.

Job Functions/Responsibilities
- Leverage scripting languages, such as Python and Terraform, to build automated solutions and integrations on an ad-hoc basis
- Define and Implement Operational Standards in the GCP environment
- Work with System Engineers, Developers, Architects, and DevOps engineers to design and implement automated solutions with CI/CD Pipelines for infrastructure and software build, deployment, and configuration
- Ensure Digital Platform service level expectations are clearly defined and measurable through Service Level Objective’s (SLO’s) and Service Level Indicators (SLI’s)
- Ensure that Instances Deployed to GCP meet PACCAR’s patching, monitoring, and DR/Backup Standards
- Apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) best practices to consult, coach and provide oversight to development, business, and systems teams in defining and implementing SLOs/SLIs
- Automate Application and Services in GCP using Terraform, Git-flow or an equivalent
- Maintain code and scripting Git version control repositories and related systems supporting initiatives around “infrastructure as code”
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems with the build, deployment, and continuous integration process
- Ensure security is integrated into all architecture solutions to meet compliance standards
- Seek opportunities and implement solutions to improve site reliability (reducing Mean Time to Diagnosis, Mean Time to Resolution, System Self-healing, etc.)
Qualifications

5+ years of non-internship professional cloud engineering or software development experience

1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

Experience using GCP resource technologies to develop and deploy enterprise solutions

Proficient in one or more of Python, Perl, Ruby, Bash, or Java
Preferred Qualifications
- GCP certifications a plus
- Experience managing scaled cloud systems with a focus on operational excellence
- Experience working with high-availability, distributed systems and services in a hosting environment including hardware, OS, storage, network, and database solutions
- Experience with DNS, DHCP, SSH, HTTP, TCP/IP and other common network protocols Experience with system analysis and troubleshooting in large-scale Linux environment Experience with database technology, both relational and NoSQL
- Working knowledge of agile development methods
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Information Technology or related experience preferred

The salary range for the Site Reliability Engineer - Google Cloud is $93,000 - $145,500 annually. Additionally, this role is eligible for a full range of benefit options listed above.
