Job Summary

The Service Technical Content Author will author service content for our dealer technicians, dealer service training, and our customers. Service content is included in service manuals, operator manuals, quick reference guides, service bulletins, and technical training curricula. Tools used to create content include Empolis Component Content Management System (CCMS), Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and PTC Creo and Illustrate. Our documents are published on the web, to print, and to truck displays (e.g. speedometer/tachometer). The goal is to maximize content re-use (minimize duplication) and consistency across all PACCAR content. This role will identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Here's what you will do in this role.

· Write, photograph, video, draw, edit written and visual service information into a structured XML format.

· Participate in Engineering Design reviews to learn about new products, identify service literature needs, and subject matter experts (SMEs)

· Provide feedback to Engineering from a Service perspective.

· Author product service and operation based on SME input and from design reviews.

· Coordinate with other CCMS authors on shared topics in multiple documents.

· Ensure product documentation is produced in a timely manner and adheres to PACCAR’s style guidelines and standards of accuracy, thoroughness, readability, usefulness, consistency, and organization.

· Publish service content to dealer portal.

· Flexible work hours but may require some early start or late end times depending on the project.

· Occasional travel may be required depending upon the project (up to 5%)

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills

· Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, manufacturing, business, or related subject

· Previous automotive/dealership hands-on experience or manufacturing experience

· Working knowledge of HTML, XML publishing, and structured authoring

· Understanding of single source writing, minimalism style authoring, XML re-use of topics, and topic-based writing

· 5+ years’ experience in a technical publication team within the truck or automotive industry.  Publications should include operator’s manuals or service manuals.

· Experience with the following tools: XML based CCMS, Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, PTC Creo and Illustrate, Tableau, Microsoft Access, Excel, SharePoint, and OneNote

Additional Job Board Information

The salary range for the Service Technical Content Author is $72,200 - $108,000 annually. This position is also eligible for a holiday gift. Additionally, this role is eligible for the full range of benefit options listed above.
