Requisition Summary
The Service Diagnostics Engineer will develop and maintain service procedures, tools, and Standard Repair Times (SRT) which includes, but is not limited to, diagnostic step-by-step instructions for technicians.  Service procedures provide a foundation for vehicle repairs, standard repair times and training curriculum.  The Service Diagnostics Engineer will manage multiple work requests while balancing competing priorities to complete assigned tasks. Additionally, this role will identify opportunities for continuous improvements both in product and in day-to-day activities.

Job Functions / Responsibilities
•    Develop and maintain service and diagnostic information of engine and vehicle systems
•    Author dealer web-based service and diagnostic information  
•    Analyze and translate complex engineering data into useful diagnostic information for the PACCAR service network
•    Develop service resources (e.g. Quick Reference Guides)
•    Coordinate with Service Diagnostics Technicians to create and maintain SRTs required to support timely project implementations and reduce long-term warranty repair costs. Includes support for: 

  • New Products
  • Service and Recall Bulletins
  • Dealer SRT Challenges

•    Coordinate with Peterbilt and PTC Diagnostic Teams on time studies on PACCAR product using PACCAR’s standard process
•    Provide support and technical expertise to internal departments such as Engineering, Service Authoring, Engine & Vehicle Support Center, Warranty, Field Service and Dealer Training
•    Improve Quality and Time-to-Market Diagnostics information in order to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership by minimizing downtime and increasing the number of First Time Right repairs
•    Regularly maintain contact with Diagnostic information users (Field Service, PPD Vehicle Support Center, and potentially production) to ensure quality and practicality
•    Communicate project status to stakeholders
•    Lead and/or participate in continuous improvement initiatives
•    Complete other assignments as requested by management


Qualifications & Skills
•    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred
•    Strong understanding of vehicle diagnostic systems
•    Electrical and electronics experience
•    Strong understanding of Controller Area Networks (CANs) and J1939 communications protocol
•    Truck/Automotive technician experience or manufacturing experience strongly preferred
•    Thorough knowledge of service and operation of engine and vehicle systems required
•    Engine aftertreatment troubleshooting experience preferred
•    ASE Certification preferred
•    XML authoring experience preferred
•    MS Office tools experience including, Excel, SharePoint and OneNote preferred
•    High level of initiative and demonstrated problem solving
•    Efficient communication skills, both verbally and in writing, brevity is preferred
•    Must be able to work with a diverse set of stakeholders and manage multiple tasks concurrently
•    Project management experience a plus
