Requisition Summary

The PACCAR Technical Center is looking for an engineering intern interested in computer simulation - either finite-element analysis or computational fluid dynamics - on medium and heavy duty trucks and their components. This position’s primary tasks include pre-processing CAD geometry and preparing appropriate analyses to support engineering simulation needs for PACCAR North America.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

The Engineering Intern will learn to conduct simulations related to systems in heavy and medium duty PACCAR vehicles. The specific activities include:


  • Working cooperatively with other Simulation Technology employees
  • Pre-processing CAD geometry for desired analyses (FEA or CFD)
  • Preparing and solving those models
  • Post-processing simulation results
  • Reporting simulation results
  • Writing technical reports to document models and results
  • Applying engineering skills to solve structural and aerodynamic problems
  • Participate in testing to correlate simulation results


  • Junior or higher standing toward an engineering degree
  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanics of materials and fluid dynamics
  • Imaginative and Inquisitive nature
  • Strong computer skills   
  • Excellent communication skills required
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills required
  • Technical writing experience preferred
