We are looking for a driven Powertrain Calibration Engineer for our Powertrain Integration and Performance group.  Specific focus will be in vehicle heavy duty diesel powertrain performance of the North American PACCAR engine families.  The selected individual will work in a global cross-divisional team to develop the best performing heavy Duty Powertrains for North America.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 
 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Uses engineering principles and experience to develop test procedures to conduct targeted powertrain performance testing.
  • Leads initiatives to develop and test all PACCAR powertrain systems and provide feedback on competitive analysis.
  • Leads the technical analysis and calibration of Predictive Cruse Control in PACCAR powertrain systems for heavy and medium-duty vehicles.
  • Support powertrain test cell activities for powertrain software development, integration and optimization including advanced predictive features. 
  • Works with suppliers on software and hardware updates and deliveries on all powertrain systems.
  • Provides technical input for new powertrain systems, advanced predictive features, and advanced powertrain systems.
  • Actively participates in the development, verification, release and implementation of software for North American vehicles and aftermarket support.
  • Provides relevant input to the development, communication and management of vehicle development plans, including timing, quality and budget.
  • Supports embedded engineering group with new product requirement definitions and software prototyping initiatives.
  • Work with PACCAR Division engineering design teams to define the testing envelope for North American PACCAR powertrains.
  • Works with OBD team to build robust diagnostic calibrations.
  • Leads initiatives to improve calibration and testing methods for higher efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Stays current on software functionality and product requirements for all PACCAR powertrain systems.
  • Stays technically current with the heavy duty, medium duty, and hybrid/electric diesel industry.
  • Mentors less experienced engineers to help them develop their career and expand the team’s skill base.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with other groups and PACCAR divisions.

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience required.
  • Sound knowledge of simulation and modeling tools for advanced predictive features, as well as engine and transmission control systems.
  • Self-directed, excellent analysis and engineering judgment required.
  • Previously demonstrated ability to manage large, complex projects required.
  • Prior experience developing and testing powertrain products for vehicles required.
  • Sound knowledge of test cell and in vehicle performance calibration, calibration tools, OBD, and engine control systems.
  • Organized and disciplined with ability to manage personal workload and a willingness and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills including the delivery of formal presentations.
  • Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate quickly and effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop trusting business relationships.
  • Knowledge of the Advanced Product Quality Process preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%.

Education

  • BS in appropriate technical field required.
