The PACCAR Technical Center is looking for an engineering intern to work in the Connectivity and AI/ML group supporting the PACCAR Co-Optimization of Vehicles and Routes (CoVaR) program. CoVaR is a Department of Energy funded project. Under the Co-optimization of Vehicles and Routes program, PACCAR proposes a holistic approach to improving overall transportation system efficiency by addressing technical barriers at each stage of the transportation system i.e., supply chain, vehicle technology, and human factors (driver). The assignment is to support the development of advanced connectivity and machine learning technique towards an intelligent perception of the surroundings for a fleet of connected trucks. This assignment provides the opportunity to work with state-of-art machine learning and wireless communication technologies and to gain experience in a multi-disciplinary engineering team.

Division Information

.The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

Responsibilities: 

The goal of this intern assignment is to develop an edge computing system with machine learning / artificial intelligence to use telematics data towards a coordinated perception among a fleet of trucks. The tasks for this assignment include:

1.    Literature review to determine current state-of-the art and limitations
2.    Development of intelligent edge AI architecture that integrates vehicle CAN data with additional sensor data towards coordinated perception in a connected truck environment
3.    Development of Proof-of-concept hardware and software
4.    Integration/Implementation on a PACCAR truck
5.    Testing and Validation on a PACCAR truck
6.    Analysis of testing and validation data and recommendations for further development

Qualifications:

  • Good programing skills, preferably python and MATLAB. 
  • Candidate with knowledge of Machine Learning and Wireless Networking is preferred.
  • Eager to work with / analyze vehicle data
  • Interested in connected vehicle data and analytics
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills 

Education

Junior or higher standing toward an engineering degree
