Vehicle Performance Manager 

 

Requisition Summary

The Vehicle Performance Manager is responsible for managing a team of project engineers and technicians under three departments: Vehicle Performance, Metrology, and the Instrumentation Lab.

The Vehicle Performance Group manages projects to perform vehicle-level development and validation testing in multiple functional areas including vehicle dynamics, NVH (noise, vibration, harshness), steering systems, fuel economy, aerodynamics, and brake systems. The Metrology and Instrumentation groups are responsible for the installation of data acquisition equipment and the data collection activities while conducting engineering tests, processing that data for engineering review, and ensuring that instruments used to acquire engineering data are properly calibrated and functioning within specifications.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington.

 

 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of engineers and technicians responsible for vehicle development and validation testing, test data collection and processing, and proper calibration and function of engineering instruments.
  • Manage the team’s workload (assign projects, encourage cross-training opportunities, help to remove barriers, prioritize conflicting assignments) and develop the team’s adaptability to handle workload fluctuations.
  • Develop the teams’ capabilities to support new technology development and expanding technical roles in the organization.
  • Department strategic resource planning and development (personnel, technical capabilities, and budgeting), cross-functional collaboration, situational leadership.
  • Budget development, forecasting, and management, staff compensation, expense approvals.
  • Staff development and training, goal setting and performance appraisals, individual development planning, merit awards, promotion and succession planning, team building, coaching and mentoring, accountability and feedback.
  • Recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new staff.
  • Encourage continual process and efficiency improvements, increased data quality and confidence.

 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience with a background in ground vehicle testing.
  • Broad knowledge of automotive and commercial vehicle systems.
  • Desire to work with technical staff, fostering teamwork and employee development.
  • Excellent leadership and project management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to achieve business objectives.
  • Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively.
  • Sound engineering judgment, problem solving, and technical analysis skills. 
  • Organized and disciplined with ability to manage personal workload and respond to shifting time and project demands.

 

 

Education

MS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline required.
