The Thermal Management Test Engineer will be responsible for leading field tests to collect data on thermal management systems for various powertrain types and configurations along with vehicle related control systems during specialized summer and winter test trips.

Division Information
The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington.

 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • The primary role of this position will be to lead Field Test projects in the Thermal Management Group at the PACCAR Technical Center (PTC).
  • Maintain open and clear communication among all stakeholders including PACCAR divisions, requesting division engineers, and key suppliers.
  • Coordinate with other engineers and project managers across PTC to coordinate testing needed on vehicle programs to achieve efficient execution of projects. 
  • Manage risk across the entire project life cycle.
  • Proactively manage change in project scope, identify potential problems, and devise contingency plans.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations for regular internal and external review meetings.
  • Oversee the internal financial reporting process to ensure consistency of reporting across all assigned projects.   
  • Develop project plans and associated communications documents in accordance with the approved processes and compliant with PACCAR Policies.
  • Responsible for resolving, communicating, and prioritizing project issues in a timely manner.
  • Create, track, and communicate project schedules, deliverables, and budgets.
  • Communicates preliminary results during and immediately after field test activities. Completes final data analysis and reports results to stakeholders.
  • Develops expertise in field test correlation to lab-based test methods.

 

Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in project management with exposure to field test preferred.
  • Five years of heavy-duty diesel engine and class eight vehicle experience preferred.
  • Experience with ATI systems and Matlab or similar data processing and analysis tools.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment and manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.
  • Must be organized and self-motivated, identifying and proactively addressing opportunities for program improvement.
  • Able to effectively evaluate proposals using sound judgment and present recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new environments and rapidly understand new systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must.
  • Six Sigma experience a plus.
  • Required to travel 3-4 weeks in late summer months (July-August) and 3-4 weeks in mid-winter months (January – February).

 

Education

BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

The salary range for the Thermal Management Test Engineer is $84,000 - $131,700 annually. Additionally, this role is eligible for the full range of benefit options listed above.
