Requisition Summary
We are looking for people that want to radically improve vehicle transportation to achieve lower carbon emissions. This position will be critical to PACCAR’s success as we build our capabilities in battery technologies in support of the Department of Energy SuperTruck 3 program.
Working at the PACCAR Technical Center you will be developing the next generation of battery technologies nestled between the snow-covered peaks of the north cascades and the Puget Sound. You’ll have easy access to recreational opportunities including, some of the best hiking, skiing, and snowboarding in the country, you also have access to boating, fishing, and sailing in the area.
This isn't a boring desk job! While the office environment here is great - many of our team spend their days evaluating software, calibration, and hardware performance in our state-of-the-art facilities, well-equipped laboratories, or in trucks on our test tracks and local roads.
We also work very closely with our European counterparts, strategic academic and research partners in the U.S., and occasionally travel there for project work.

Job Functions / Responsibilities
- Guide the evaluation and selection of battery cells contributing to the correct specification of battery packs and BMS.
- Lead benchmarking activities, technology evaluation projects, and development of validation standards of high voltage battery cells for zero emission commercial vehicle applications.
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies in the fields of electrochemistry and materials applied to battery cells, tools, and methods through interaction with universities, national labs and suppliers.
- Establish requirements and KPIs for high-energy density cells for commercial vehicle applications.
- Liaise with purchasing to evaluate and select battery cell suppliers.
- Communicate results and recommendations to team and stakeholders on a regular basis and facilitate technology transfer to relevant PACCAR divisions.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in electrochemistry, material sciences or electrical engineering required, PhD preferred.
- Demonstrated work experience with battery cell chemistry, performance, and failure analysis .
- In-depth experience with battery cell specification, understanding of battery module and pack design, thermal management, and vehicle integration.
- Background in system-level integration and performance testing.
- Familiarity with electric powertrain simulation tools.
- Experience with leadership of cross-functional technical project teams.
- Previously demonstrated resourcefulness, strong technical knowledge, analytical capability, and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, be a self-starter and have demonstrated high levels of initiative and innovation.
