Requisition Summary

PACCAR, global manufacturer of heavy-duty transportation equipment, including Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF trucks, seeks a Project Lead Engineer at their Technical Center in Mount Vernon, Washington. The successful candidate will lead and provide technical support to the Test Engineering team engaged in the support of integration and verification of powertrain systems in PACCAR vehicles. Primary focus will be to organize and monitor on-site and off-site testing of new or modified components focusing on engines, aftertreatment, and advanced technologies developed for future powertrains. This position potentially will support issues during off-shift hours, as well as working with off-site testing locations requiring up to 20% travel.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 


Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Provides relevant input to the development, communication and management of powertrain development plans, including timing, quality and budget.
  • Assist with the development and resource management for cross-divisional work requests for testing activities, powertrain simulation and data analytic solutions
  • Track the workflow and task completion of test requests from powertrain development teams
  • Work with the powertrain development teams and project management in creating a timeline for necessary work to be completed
  • Maintains positive working relationships with other groups and PACCAR divisions.
  • Assist in the definition, purchasing, and maintenance all powertrain components
  • Ensure Test Engineering provides the required development tools required to interface with the engine management and vehicle systems.
  • Provides technical feedback on proposed testing efforts
  • Actively participate in the development, verification, release and implementation of powertrain systems for PACCAR
  • Leads initiatives to improve calibration and testing methods for higher efficiency and effectiveness


  • BS in appropriate technical field required
  • Minimum five years of relevant work experience required
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Project and other MS Tool Suites required
  • Knowledge of test cell and in vehicle diesel engine calibration, calibration tools, OBD, and engine control systems
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively multi-cultural environment
  • Self-directed, excellent analysis and engineering judgment required
  • Organized and disciplined with ability to manage personal workload and a willingness and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands
