Requisition Summary

The PACCAR Technical Center is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of battery packs for medium and heavy duty commercial vehicles.
In this position, you will be responsible for the mechanical designs of scalable modular battery packs for PACCAR’s portfolio of electrified commercial vehicles. Responsibilities of this role include requirements gathering, mechanical architecture concept development, prototyping, and demonstration. The successful candidate will also be involved in test and validation campaigns as well as activities related to design for manufacture and recyclability.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with PACCAR Vehicle Divisions to gather and document mechanical design requirements for battery packs and systems
  • Develop technical requirements and validation plan for battery system design
  • Use PACCAR’s TRL process to develop battery mechanical system concept
  • Develop design rules for the packaging of high voltage battery cells
  • Collaborate with electrical, thermal, software/controls and battery engineers for the development of modular and scalable battery packs for commercial vehicle applications
  • Support PACCAR purchasing and quality in supplier identification, evaluation, and qualification. Liaise with PACCAR purchasing, quality and suppliers to guarantee that parts meet quality requirements
  • Actively participate in the prototype battery pack and system build and validation tests
     

Qualifications

 

Required

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
  • Working experience designing commercial vehicle components and systems
  • Working knowledge of safety principles, best-practices, and functional safety 
  • Working experience with electrical tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to perform in tight schedules in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated success working as part of a global, multicultural technology development environment

 

Preferred

  • Working experience with TRL process
  • Working experience designing mechanical systems and component integration for BEVs

Education

BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
