Requisition Summary

Primary function of the Structural design/drafts person is to work with engineers designing and laying out test fixtures in the Structures Lab.  This position also interfaces with other groups at PTC to fulfill their drafting needs.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

Project Management:
Primary

  • Supports PTC with engineering drawings.
  • Designs fixtures and specifies instrumentation, equipment, vehicles, loading configurations, and data processing techniques.
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts projects of moderate scope with appropriate supervision.

Secondary

  • Analyzes projects requests, discusses project requirements with requestors and formulates preliminary project plans, budgets and schedules.
  • Organizes and conducts tests of components and assemblies to determine product reliability and performance. 
  • Participates in data collections and analysis.
  • Writes reports, incorporates results, conclusions, and recommendations.
Fixture Design:
Designs and prepares engineering layouts for test fixtures and assemblies.  Provides Engineering and Fabrication Department with designs and drawings as needed.
 
Teamwork/Communication:
Fosters good communications, establishes and maintains cooperative and productive work relations with all other departments.  Responsible for informing managers, peers and division personnel of work progress, support problems, scheduling conflicts, or opportunities of which they should be aware.
 
Safety:
Ensures that work area cleanliness is maintained.  Observes established safety policies.  Remains alert for possible safety hazards in own work as well as in work of others.  Maintains knowledge of Materials Safety Data Sheets for hazardous chemicals used on the job.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of related experience.
  • Good mathematical skills, basic knowledge of general engineering and electrical theory and practices.
  • Proficient with electronic instrumentation and operation.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings of electrical/mechanical equipment, test fixtures and assemblies.
  • A good working knowledge of PACCAR products.
  • Good technical and communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage personal workload and shows initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands.

Education

AA Degree in Technology or equivalent experience.
