Engine Test Lab Operations Manager

Requisition Summary

The Engine Test Lab Operations Manager will work at PACCAR’s Engine Test Laboratory (ETL) in Mount Vernon, Washington. This manager will lead a group of engineers and technicians who are responsible for running and managing powertrain testing activities as well as maintaining and upgrading ETL facility and software systems.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington.  

Job Functions / Responsibilities

• Responsible for supervision, coordination, and development of engineers and technicians performing and supporting testing in engine and powertrain test cells
• Provide expertise to plan and conduct performance, durability, and emissions testing of heavy-duty on-highway powertrain systems to support program goals of European and North American PACCAR divisions
• Mentor ETL staff with regard to cell and engine operation, emissions measurement practices, data analysis, and quality validation
• Review project requests and assemble resources required for testing
• Identify and implement processes to improve the quality and efficiency of powertrain testing, emissions measurement, and data processing in the ETL
• Assess operational needs, including processes, staffing, and equipment, and provide input to higher management
• Lead facility and software upgrades for capability enhancements, standardization, and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements
• Work with PACCAR colleagues to align EU and US powertrain testing facilities and procedures
• Establish and maintain cooperative and productive work relations with other departments and divisions

Qualifications 

• Minimum 10 years work experience performing powertrain testing in an engine and emissions test laboratory
• Knowledge of diesel engine and exhaust aftertreatment system operation and control systems
• Thorough understanding of industry and regulatory standards, including 40 CFR Part 86, 1036, 1037, and 1065
• Desire to work with ETL staff, fostering teamwork and employee development
• Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively
• Self-directed with excellent analysis skills, technical judgment, and attention to detail
