PACCAR, global manufacturer of heavy-duty transportation equipment, including Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF trucks, seeks a Climatic Chassis Dynamometer Test Engineer at their Technical Center in Mount Vernon, Washington. The Climatic Chassis Dynamometer (CCD) Test Engineer will manage and execute testing activities in cooperation with requestors from PTC, Paccar Truck Divisions and PACCAR Global Engine organization. Key responsibilities include running and managing CCD testing activities as well as serving as a leader and mentor for technical staff. In addition, technical support of the CCD systems will require becoming an expert on the design and function of the individual systems that give the CCD it’s unique operating parameters.

 

Job Functions / Responsibilities


•    Conduct performance, durability, and emissions testing of heavy-duty diesel along with battery electric powertrain systems to support program goals of European and North American PACCAR divisions
•    Mentor CCD technical staff about cell and engine operation, emissions measurement practices, data analysis, and quality validation
•    Identify and implement processes to improve the quality and efficiency of powertrain testing, emissions measurement, and data processing. Improve existing test protocols to increase automation and test cell utilization
•    Work with CCD team to perform facility and software upgrades for compliance with 40 CFR Part 1066
•    Support PACCAR’s organizations by supplying and improving the testing tools used for calibrating, evaluating, and validating new engine and aftertreatment hardware and software

 

Qualifications

•    Minimum 3 years work experience performing powertrain testing 
•    Knowledge of diesel engine and exhaust aftertreatment system operation 
•    Ability to work with CCD and ETL technician staff, fostering teamwork and employee development
•    Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
•    Excellent organizational and communication skills
•    Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks


Preferred Qualifications & Skills


•    Test cell experience performing heavy-duty on-highway engine development   
•    Proficiency using AVL test cell automation systems and data analysis (PUMA and CONCERTO)
•    Minimum 5 years work experience performing powertrain testing
•    Experience with PACCAR engine and aftertreatment development tools (ATI Vision)
•    Strong preference for experience in test protocols for OBD systems, heavy-duty on-the road diesel engine operations, knowledge of current diesel exhaust aftertreatment technology (DOC, DPF, SCR & DEF).
•    Knowledge of EPA and CARB diesel emissions regulations
•    Must be self-directed; possess excellent analysis, communication and presentation skills; must be organized and take a rigorous approach to engineering projects
•    Ability to work well independently and as part of a team; communicate within the organization.
•    Must be able to manage personal workload and have the willingness, flexibility, and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands
•    Maintain positive working relationship with other groups at PTC and other PACCAR divisions


Education


•    BS in appropriate technical field required; MS preferred for advancement opportunities.
