Requisition Summary

This position is located within the Advanced Powertrain organization at PTC and involves using engineering principles, testing, and analysis to develop and optimize powertrain technologies.  The systems under development include next generation engines, aftertreatment, and conventional and electrified powertrains.  Additional responsibilities include interfacing with divisions (Kenworth, Peterbilt, DAF, PACCAR Parts and ITD), as well as working with external research and engineering organizations that are partnered with PACCAR.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing.This position is located in beautiful Skagit Valley - Mount Vernon, WA.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Commission, calibrate, and test new engine, aftertreatment, and powertrain technologies to support evaluation under the PACCAR Technology Readiness Level process
  • Develop and prototype new hardware concepts on PACCAR engines and powertrain systems
  • Set up and perform tests on vehicles, chassis dyno, powertrain dyno, engine test cells, and component test rigs.
  • Perform physics-based calculations to support initial analysis of new technologies
  • Develop and document engine/powertrain test, measurement, and analysis techniques
  • Analyze data from tests and other sources to provide insights and design recommendations
  • Detailed reporting of test results

Qualifications

  • 5 years of applicable experience
  • In-depth experience applying fundamental physics to heavy-duty engine and/or powertrain development
  • Knowledge of physics and performance of heavy duty engine air management, combustion, and mechanical systems
  • Experience with powertrain testing equipment including automation systems, emission benches and measurement devices
  • Experience performing testing and analysis of engine and powertrain systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previously demonstrated strong technical knowledge, analytical skills, and organization skills
  • Be a self-starter and have demonstrated high levels of resourcefulness, initiative, and innovation.

Education

Masters degree in an appropriate engineering discipline.
