Requisition Summary

PACCAR is a global truck technology leader with operations around the world. The Digital Solutions team is helping PACCAR make better decisions faster by moving to the cloud, adopting DevOps/CICD best practices, and unlocking a new level of productivity & value. We are looking for technology leaders to drive this evolution.


We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator of Oracle and PostgreSQL databases with the ability to manage enterprise-level databases in a scalable database solution. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about learning new technologies and implementing solutions using these technologies. The ideal candidate demonstrates an ability to work with business and technical teams. You will serve as designing, implementing, and maintaining stable, scalable, low cost database solutions in this role.  The Database Administrator will design, develop, implement, test, document, and operate large-scale, high-volume, high-performance database structures. Implement data structures using best practices in data modeling. Will provide support to perform tasks such as PostgreSQL installations, database backups and restores, database creation, refreshes, application of DB patches, review of DB for performance enhancements, and monitoring for availability are performed regularly.  He/she will be tuning performance on queries running over millions of rows of data. The person in this position should be analytical, have an extremely high level of customer focus, and a passion for process improvement.


Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Experience in enterprise Oracle database environment.
  • Administration, configuration and installation of PostgreSQL Databases
  • Design, implement, tune and support Oracle database.
  • Generate scripts to migrate ORACLE schema changes between environments using ORACLE admin tools. 
  • Familiar with DevOps methodology to automate database deployment.
  • Experience with ORACLE native SQL procedures.
  • Develop simple and complex Postgres stored procedures, functions and views to meet enhancement requirements.
  • Provide database support estimate for new projects.
  • Develop ETL strategies for integrating data from multiple sources in data warehouses
  • Adhere to and enforce database standards.
  • Introduce and deploy new database features.
  • Ensure security is integrated into all data solutions to meet compliance standards.
  • Help support performing PostgreSQL, Oracle and MySQL DB patching, investigate and remediate vulnerabilities
  • Perform onsite database recovery/restore as required. 
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery procedure and validation.
  • Support ORACLE and Postgres database upgrades.
  • Design, develop, migrate and support Oracle on AIX to Oracle on Linux.
  • Assist Data Engineer in moving data from Oracle to distributed systems using an ETL tool, such as Attunity.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 4+ years relevant experience as an ORACLE DBA in a z/OS environment using Oracle utilities, including experience with Linux, evaluating dump output, is required. 
    • Proven database design and development experience in an AIX and Linux environment is required (preferably including Oracle). 
    • Oracle DBA experience in an online environment is desirable. 
    • Working knowledge in both UNIX and windows platforms including cross-platform data access is desirable.
    • Experience with ORACLE stored procedures, Erwin are all pluses.
  • Experience working with Postgres Databases, including all aspects of installation/configuration, performance tuning.
  • Expertise with SQL and relational database systems.
  • Proven experience with integrations from Oracle to Postgres
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts.
  • Knowledge of modeling logical/business data requirements in a data model tool, such as ERWin data modeler.
  • Ability to support multiple RDBMS technologies and work in the AWS cloud environment is a plus.
  • Experience in generating scripts for physical database deployment.
  • Ability to talk data modeling and data design concept to IT and business people.
  • Familiarity with Cloud, NoSQL, and Hadoop data technologies.
  • Knowledge of more than one database platform, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle and Teradata.
  • Knowledge of standard data model reports.
  • Must have knowledge of data normalization and denormalization techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including active listening, problem solving when under pressure, and facilitation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • New technologies are desired, such as Python scripting language and C#.
  • Amazon AWS experience is desired
