Requisition Summary

PACCAR is seeking a Senior Commodity Manager to join a strong and growing Purchasing team.  In this role, one will negotiate and manage all aspects of PACCAR’s relationship with suppliers, including the commercial/contractual requirements with respect to total cost, technology, delivery, customer service, aftermarket support, logistics and quality. Commodity Managers are change agents, focused on delivering the highest value to internal and external customers at the lowest total cost.

 

A successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding time management, organizational skills, and the ability to run multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Develop, negotiate, and implement strategies resulting in improved supply chain performance and enhanced product quality. 
  • Investigate and implement new technologies, strategic procurement strategies and logistical opportunities.
  • Communicate and conduct meetings and formal presentations with suppliers, plant, and division personnel at all management levels. 
  • Negotiate and assure supplier compliance to long-term supply and warranty agreements.
  • Issue formal Requests for Information, Proposals and Quotes (RFI’s, RFP’s, and RFQ’s) and analyze responses to select suppliers that meet or exceed PACCAR requirements
  • Travel to supplier locations to evaluate capabilities, assess production readiness, investigate new opportunities, improve manufacturing efficiencies, and resolve chronic supply and quality issues.
  • Travel to PACCAR’s operating locations in support of the above activities Administer long-term supply, development, and warranty agreements.
  • Program/Project Management

 

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of work experience
  • 5 years of purchasing, engineering, or related experience - commercial transportation, heavy equipment, or automotive experience is a plus
  • Possess a strong understanding of fundamental contract terms and be able to draft supply contracts.
  • Experience with part purchasing, design, manufacturing, and/or supply chain management 
  • Proven ability to negotiate and analyze complex situations
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills
  • Creative, quality and results-driven work ethic presenting solutions when challenged
  • Ability to conceptualize and implement cost savings projects.
  • Ability to direct oneself and act with minimal supervision.  
  • Be able to influence supplier behavior to meet PACCAR requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership to accomplish company goals
  • Demonstrated capability to lead projects from creation to completion
  • Project Team participation and/or Project Management
  • Excellent communication skills – written, verbal, & presentation
  • PC skills (Word, Excel, Access, & PowerPoint) 
  • Ability to perform advanced analysis on large data sets, draw salient conclusions from such analysis, and cogently present analysis to management.
  • Ability to perform market research to identify and evaluate potential new suppliers.
  • Ability to develop sourcing strategies.
  • Able to travel (domestic and international)

 

Preferred:

  • Raw material sourcing experience.
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Make vs Buy Analysis

 

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related technical field required. Masters or MBA preferred. CPSM Certification preferred. PMP Certification preferred.
