Requisition Summary

Are you interested in developing Battery Electric Vehicles? Do you have a diverse skillset in electrical safety principles, systems engineering, battery technology, product design, and communication? If so, then a career as a Battery Safety Systems Engineer in PACCAR’s Global Powertrain Division is for you!

 

Within a new team of highly talented engineers, you will find yourself designing safety into Electric Vehicle Battery Systems for all of PACCAR’s worldwide vehicle divisions. This position will take a global approach and requires collaboration within a diverse cross-functional and multicultural team. PACCAR is eager to advance its product line of zero-emissions powertrains, and this is a chance to assume a critical role in supporting that effort. You will be a key part of ensuring PACCAR products are not only safe but also meet the needs of customers and those of the climate.

 

This position is located at PACCAR’s North Texas office in Lewisville, TX.

 

 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Design battery systems for a global fleet of Battery Electric vehicles. Use Systems Engineering methods to model and analyze interactions between components. Create alternative designs to compare against baseline concepts and use structured methods to arrive at optimal designs.
  • Provide Systems Engineering services in a matrixed, cross-functional organization supporting multiple simultaneous projects. Maximize PACCAR’s return on product development by creating scalable, versatile systems easily reconfigurable to suit different vehicles and market segments.
  • Define high-level system properties to satisfy overall powertrain requirements. Allocate to individual system components and ensure system robustness in the face of variability. Iteratively re-analyze and reallocate properties as system design matures.
  • Be a subject matter expert on battery technology, providing guidance to the organization on optimal design, handling, usage, maintenance, and recycling of your battery systems. Research both existing and future technology to maintain PACCAR’s leadership in battery technology.
  • Support the Product Creation Process using Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) and proprietary methods to document the design process from concept to manufacturing to validation. Participate in developing Technical Requirements Specifications, performing Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), creating multi-tiered Quality Function Deployment matrices, and much more.
  • Ensure systems are seamlessly integrated within the PACCAR supply chain by providing timely and accurate information to engineering, logistics, manufacturing, sales, and service departments across all of PACCAR’s worldwide brands.

 

Qualifications / Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required. Masters preferred.
  • 5-10 years’ experience applying Systems Engineering principles.
  • 3-5 years’ experience designing large battery systems.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the automotive industry.
  • Excellent knowledge of:
    • Product Development (Design for Six Sigma highly preferred).
    • Electrical Systems.
    • Electrical Safety.
    • Functional Safety.
    • Embedded Systems.
  • Excellent cooperation and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate in the Chinese language (Mandarin) is highly preferred.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment, while managing multiple priorities.
