Position Summary

PACCAR’s Embedded Engineering department, which serves Kenworth and Peterbilt, has an opening for an Application Software Engineer in the Autonomous Vehicle Program team. This team is seeking to develop multiple new features to support the creation of a safe and reliable autonomous-enabled truck.  Successful candidates for this role will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, possess the ability to learn quickly and strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be able to deliver critical program goals across multiple functionalities and continue to enhance PACCAR’s global functional and system development processes.

 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Define the embedded system specifications, performance targets, and system interfaces.
  • Strong embedded systems knowledge and hands-on experience in memory management strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with software development tools (Matlab/Simulink)
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Java, or Python, and experience with embedded software development.
  • Experience with version control tools (SVN/GIT)
  • Develop high-level software architectures for embedded applications, ensuring scalability, flexibility, and modularity.
  • Defining complex software solutions for the application software.
  • Proven experience in software architecture and development for automotive embedded systems or related domains.
  • Experience in working with L3/L4 embedded systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, creativity, and the ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Participate in the planning and tracking of software tasks
  • Test and implement software modifications to repair defects discovered during validation and testing
  • Lead embedded architecture and electrical integration support working closely with Electrical architecture and integration teams.
  • Oversee the development of embedded software modules, ensuring adherence to coding standards, best practices, safety regulations, and technology roadmap development.
  • Ensure embedded software compliance with relevant automotive safety standards (ISO 26262) and industry regulations.
  • Develop comprehensive testing procedures and protocols to validate embedded software performance under various scenarios and conditions.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and research advancements related to embedded and autonomous driving.
  • Support embedded Function owners with functional definitions and systems design
  • Support achievement of SW maturity levels and deadlines according to the quality gate for all projects
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • B.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent required
  • 5-7 years in development & release of automotive or commercial vehicle software or similar industry-related background preferred
  • Proficiency with GIT/Java /C++/ embedded Linux / Python / is required;
  • Experience with data structures, POSIX, Unity, and Open GL is a plus
  • Proficiency using MATLAB/Simulink, Rational Rhapsody, Subversion (SVN), and Requirements Management tools is desired
  • Hands-on experience with tools like CANalyzer, CANoe, and diagnostic tools is a plus
  • Knowledge and experience in automotive communication protocols (CAN, J1939, Ethernet) and embedded-related standards (ASIL, ISO 26262) is a plus
  • Experience creating documentation including software requirements specifications, and engineering change notices
  • Solid understanding of Design for Six Sigma and Six Sigma techniques
  • Willing to learn and use new engineering processes and techniques and be resourceful in solving complex technical problems
  • Experience in product development and new product implementation
  • Familiarity with personal computer software including project management tools, word processing, flowchart/modeling, presentation, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Willingness to grow personally and professionally in a team results-orientated environment
  • Travel up to 10% (domestic and international)

At PACCAR, we value talent and promote growth and development. We carefully consider numerous compensation factors including your education, training, or experience. The salary range for the Application Software Engineer position is $96,700-$151,300 annually. This position is also eligible for a holiday gift. Additionally, this role is eligible for the full range of benefit options listed above.
