Job Functions / Responsibilities

The Super Truck team is looking for a collaborative and driven engineer to join our team, focused on research and advanced product development. Our project goal is to improve freight efficiency by more than 120% through weight reduction, fuel consumption reduction and aerodynamic improvements. The program consists of a multi-phased approach that includes analysis, simulation, mockups, and testing on demonstration units. As a clean sheet approach to the future of HD line haul and regional haul trucks, the Super Truck II program provides opportunities for creative problem solving and exploration. Final designs will exhibit a path to future production models as engineers provide input to product development roadmaps.


You will have a significant voice in the direction of the program and will provide input back into production channels. You will get the opportunity to explore, innovate, and have freedom to generate ideas. You will follow-through on concepts to produce prototypes, develop test plans and analyze performance results.


In this role, you will need to collaborate with other team members, departments, major divisions of PACCAR, and suppliers to successfully develop and implement new designs.


Here's what you will do in this role:

Provide direction for vehicle interiors with consideration for future user needs and industry-related trends, with input from customers, product planning, styling, and senior management. Design and fabricate mockups for review, present background and reasoning on concepts chosen. Focus efforts on light weight designs that leverage systems integration, with considerations for overall content while satisfying multiple functions (specific use, noise, thermal). Provide input to future product roadmaps based on technology and information gathered from Super Truck development efforts.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Required – BS ME and 7+ years of industry-related background in the design and specification of automotive or HD truck components.

  • Required - Be outgoing and challenge the status-quo, willing to share and push for product improvements via innovative and effective solutions that require above and beyond effort to develop. Share ideas at division level to feed future product roadmaps.

  • Required - Willingness to grow personally and professionally, ready to learn and make use of new engineering processes and techniques. Be resourceful in solving complex technical problems.

  • Required - Prior experience in product development and new product implementation.

  • Required - Ability to perform and/or lead development efforts, coach others on design techniques.

  • Required - Advanced proficiency using Pro Engineer or other solids modeling software.

  • Required - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Required - Demonstrated ability to work with a team to achieve timely objectives.

  • Required - Competency in the use of personal computer software and MS Office suite of tools.

  • Required - Willingness to be hands-on, develop prototypes and support on-the-ground testing.

  • Preferred - Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodology.

  • Preferred - Master’s degree and Professional Engineering License.

  • Preferred – Experience with multiple components or whole vehicle architecture.
