Requisition Summary
This position in the Hoods group will work in a team-based environment focused on the development of designs within the hood and outerbody systems. Design work will be focused on developing mechanical systems in support of new product development projects. In the position, the employee will have the opportunity to work with the product from the design and validation phases through production. The employee will work closely with other disciplines across the company to deliver a World Class product.
Job Functions / Responsibilities

Participate in the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems within the hood and outerbody in the New Product Hood Design group

Utilize Creo Parametric to create optimized part and assembly models of moderate to complex designs that meet both structural and aesthetic goals requiring independent judgment

Work with internal and external organizations to validate the designs

Create rapid prototyped parts to quickly validate multiple design concepts utilizing Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, durability, and highly accelerated life tests

Utilize PACCAR and industry systems to manage the product implementation process, track costs, schedules, functional requirements, and support new product introductions

Work closely with multiple PACCAR divisions.

Manage multiple priorities and goals simultaneously.

Develop and maintain a clear understanding of plant and supplier processes in hood and outerbody modules.

Apply creativity to design tasks and propose innovative approaches to standard work.
Qualifications & Skills
-
BSME required; Master’s degree and PE/EIT certification desirable

3-5 years industry-related background in the design and specification of automotive or outer body systems

Proficiency in Creo or other solid modeling software required. Experience with surface design and/or Finite Element Analysis desired

Working knowledge of sheet metal, composite panels, and polymers/elastomers and their manufacturing processes a plus

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Solid understanding in use of Design for Six Sigma and Six Sigma techniques

Working knowledge of GD&T principles

Competency in the use of personal computer software including project management tools, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases

Willingness to learn and make use of new engineering processes and techniques and be resourceful in solving complex technical problems

Past experience in product development and new product implementation

Ability to perform in a lean, fast-paced, results-oriented environment, while managing multiple priorities is a must

The salary range for Mechanical Design Engineer-Hood Design is $80,800 - $126,600 annually. This position is also eligible for a holiday gift. Additionally, this role is eligible for the full range of benefit options listed above.
