PACCAR Embedded Engineering


PACCAR Embedded Engineering is a rapidly expanding organization that is transforming the way control systems and software are developed for commercial vehicle applications. Requisition Summary


PACCAR’s Embedded Engineering department, which serves both Kenworth and Peterbilt, has an opening for an Embedded Systems Intern within our autonomous vehicle group. Our ideal candidate exhibits the ability to think strategically, be creative and find innovate ways to create high quality solutions. He or she is a results-driven individual with a strong attention to detail and excellent technical problem-solving skills.





Job Functions / Responsibilities


  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with mechanical engineers, software engineers, safety engineers, and other professionals to ensure quality commercial vehicle electrical designs.
  • Develop designs regarding controller states, signals, and boundaries at a control system level that will serve as the interface between electrical harnesses, electronic components, vendor base software, and embedded application software.
  • Communicate control system functionality to upstream and downstream stakeholders.
  • Follow project management processes to maintain schedule and functionality.
  • Ensure industry leading quality and reliability is met, maintained, and exceeded on all components.
  • Analyze system needs and requirements to influence system architecture designs.
  • Develop and document engineering specifications for new vehicle control functions, including autonomous vehicles.
  • Drive collaborative efforts effectively with cross-divisional counterparts on global design direction.
  • Support validation activities across supplier and internal teams to ensure industry leading quality and reliability is met, maintained, or exceeded on all components and systems.




Qualifications& Skills


  • Currently pursuing a degree in one of the following disciplines: Engineering (Electrical, Software, or Mechanical), Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and drive to develop innovative hardware.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, lean, collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and planning/tracking skills.
  • Competency with standard office software (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Able to learn and use new processes and techniques and resourcefully solve complex technical issues.
  • Commitment to reliability, value, and quality in all aspects of work.
  • Willingness to grow continuously, both personally and professionally with a strong results and goal driven orientation. 


Additional Qualifications& Skills


  • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (MATLAB, C++, C#, etc.)
  • Demonstratable ability to analyze hardware and firmware designs.
  • Active participant in a university sponsored engineering club (EcoCar, Formula SAE, SARP, Etc.)
  • Understanding of complex design and application as it impacts electrical/electronic systems, architecture, and software-driven functionality
