Job Functions / Responsibilities

The Zero Emissions Department is looking for two collaborative and driven engineers to support our teams this summer, focused on research and advanced product development projects. Our goals are to develop industry leading products that help transition the heavy-duty transportation industry to clean energy solutions including hydrogen fuel cell, battery electric, and advanced efficiency vehicles. Interns will have the opportunity experience cutting edge product development and contribute to detailed designs through collaboration across multiple roles of PACCAR divisions.


You will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the direction and completion of the program. You will get the opportunity to explore, innovate, and have freedom to generate ideas. You will follow-through on concepts to produce prototypes, develop test plans and analyze performance results.



Assist in the direction, analysis, and detailed design of an advanced development vehicle with consideration for future platform introduction. This is a general posting for an internship that covers several areas of the program, including:

  • Cab Structures
  • Interiors & HMI
  • Electrical & Electronics including Power Electronics
  • Vehicle Controls and Architecture
  • Powertrain & Cooling
  • Chassis, Vehicle Ride Dynamics and NVH


Qualifications & Skills

  • Required – Candidates must be actively pursuing a BS level degree or higher in ME/EE, and at least Junior level.
  • Required - Be outgoing and challenge the status-quo, willing to share and push for product improvements via innovative and effective solutions that require above and beyond effort to develop. Share ideas at division level to feed future product roadmaps.
  • Required - Willingness to grow personally and professionally, ready to learn and make use of new engineering processes and techniques. Be resourceful in solving complex technical problems.
  • Required - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Required - Demonstrated ability to work with a team to achieve timely objectives.
  • Required - Competency in the use of personal computer software and MS Office suite of tools.
  • Required - Willingness to be hands-on, develop prototypes and support on-the-ground testing.
  • Preferred – Knowledge and proficiency with 3D modeling software, such as Pro Engineer.
