Requisition Summary

The Product Cost Integration Specialist is embedded within new product development and cost management teams to ensure cost targets, supplier capability, and sourcing strategy are integrated into product decisions from the earliest stages of development. This role drives early supplier engagement, improves the quality and confidence of cost assumptions, and ensures engineering teams are supported through key sourcing and negotiation activities.

In addition, this role strengthens overall cost reduction effectiveness by improving the quality and confidence of cost savings estimates, enabling better prioritization of opportunities, and ensuring high-impact initiatives are executed through the most effective path—either within development program scope or through established cost reduction efforts.

The result is improved cost outcomes, reduced late-cycle cost recovery, and stronger alignment between engineering design, supplier execution, and organizational forecasts.

Job Responsibilities

  • Act as a core member of a new product development team, participating in program definition, concept development, and concept selection to ensure cost and supplier considerations are represented at key decision points
  • Ensure cost targets are established early and actively used, embedding cost as a design input and preventing default assumptions of cost increase
  • Drive early supplier engagement prior to bid receipt, ensuring suppliers can influence design, cost, and manufacturability before direction is fixed
  • Drive value from the RPI process by ensuring appropriate target costs are established, transitions between Engineering, Purchasing, and suppliers are seamless, and engineering teams are supported when bids are received, and follow-up or negotiation is required
  • Ensure a clear commercial and negotiation strategy is established, enabling engineering teams to engage suppliers with confidence and support
  • Drive resolution of cost-related tradeoffs, aligning Engineering, Purchasing, and Product Strategy when cost, performance, and feature content compete
  • Improve early-stage ROI confidence for cost opportunities, leveraging should-cost thinking, supplier insight, and cost drivers prior to design maturity and formal bids
  • Improve the accuracy and confidence of cost savings estimates used for program and organizational forecasting, ensuring forecasts are supported by credible assumptions
  • Evaluate and determine the most effective execution path for cost opportunities, routing initiatives to either program scope or cost reduction workflows as appropriate
  • Drive integration of high-impact cost opportunities into program scope when program execution provides the most effective path to implementation
  • Ensure continuity between program execution and cost reduction efforts, preventing loss of opportunities due to timing gaps or ownership boundaries
  • 10% Travel may be required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field (engineering degree not required)
  • 7+ years of experience in Engineering, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Program Management, or Cost Reduction environments
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in cross-functional environments and influence decisions without direct authority
  • Experience working with engineering–purchasing processes such as sourcing, quoting, cost estimation, or similar workflows
  • Strong business and commercial acumen, including understanding of cost drivers, supplier capabilities, and margin impact
  • Ability to assess incomplete information and develop practical, defensible cost assumptions and ROI estimates
  • Ability to engage in technical discussions while translating to cost and commercial implications
  • Understanding of supplier engagement timing, quoting processes, and key cost levers
  • Ability to support development of negotiation strategies without acting as the buyer or contract owner
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a bias toward action and driving issues to resolution
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to align Engineering, Purchasing, and Product Strategy around tradeoffs and decisions
