Requisition Summary

This position of Materials Logistics Coordinator will study material flow within and to the production facility and develop recommendations for improving material handling and delivery efficiencies.  Duties will also include the analysis of and justification for materials being shipped, kitted, sub-assembled, line-sequenced and metered into the facility.  Will work with production, materials, purchasing, and quality groups to implement lean initiatives.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Identify potential opportunities to streamline material procurement and transportation, improve material handling within the facility and improve materials presentation to the production line.  Responsible for conducting material flow analysis and space utilization studies to justify proposals and to reduce material handling truck hours and improve plant inventory turns.  Execute projects to implement approved initiatives.
  • Coordinate optimized sourcing initiatives.  Work with production and materials to identify and prioritize projects.  Enlist support and recommendations from quality, supplier quality, and purchasing as necessary.  Maintain historical and active records for all projects.
  • Develop cost justifications for optimized sourcing initiatives.  Coordinate with plant accounting group to ensure concurrence with internal cost assessment.  Work with and assist production, materials, manufacturing engineering and other groups as necessary to obtain required data for justification.
  • Develop and submit Requests for Quotes (RFQ's) to suppliers for candidate optimized sourcing projects.  Coordinate candidate selection with purchasing and supplier quality.
  • Manage and coordinate repair for shipping rack fleets
  • With the assistance of Purchasing, Supplier Quality, and Production, develop quality metrics and reporting procedures for Tier 2 / MSS suppliers.
  • Maintain contacts and communicate status of active projects with the affected departments and suppliers.  Communicate and interact effectively with external and internal customers maintaining a high level of professionalism and customer diplomacy.
  • Must be able to set priorities and eliminate roadblocks. Effectively guide others to appropriate solutions.
  • Support the development of materials logistics processes and goals.
  • Leading cross-functional teams to drive improvements in quality, efficiency and cost reduction
  • Develop and manage MSS racks in support of cost reduction initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree or currently enrolled in a degree program preferred.  Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously required.  Proficiency in Word, Access, and Excel required.  3-5 years’ experience in a Logistics or manufacturing environment preferred.  Six Sigma certification / experience desired. 

Education
