Requisition Summary

This position will assist the Safety Manager in the development and implementation of Peterbilt's and PacLease's safety and health programs to include accident prevention, safety training, hazardous materials management, ergonomics, Department of Transportation DOT compliance requirements, and the Plant Emergency Team.  The chosen incumbent will assist with the safety and occupational health administrative controls to align with corporate’s expectations and ensure the safety compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local agencies.  The position will also assist and manage the safety department resources.  The travel requirement for this position is approximately 15% annually, mostly local.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

Assist the Safety Manager with the following responsibilities:


  1. Collaborate with leadership to develop a culture which promotes behavioral based safety in both operations and office environments.
  2. Manage a comprehensive health, and safety program including prevention, investigation, and recording of incidents and related costs. Track and measure results and recommend appropriate actions.
  3. Provide support and guidance to evening shift nurse.
  4. Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws which also include records retention and reporting requirements.
  5. Develop effective loss control goals and procedures for environmental, health, and safety        
  6. Partner with operations to identify and mitigate risks.        
  7. Manage the safety training program for both operations and office staff.    
  8. Coordinate with OSHA inspectors, fire department inspections, PACCAR insurance carriers, and local facilities departments.
  9. Develop training material
  10. Perform safety audits
  11. Track corrective actions
  12. Present safety training material to new hires
  13. Present LOTO and Fall Protection classes.

Skills / Competencies


  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field required.

  • Professional certification in safety, industrial hygiene or hazardous materials preferred

  • Working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA laws as well as regulatory agencies

  • Excellent organizational, written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively at various levels within the organization

  • Mechanical aptitude with an understanding of heavy manufacturing environment and equipment

  • Ability to influence a safety behavioral based culture

  • Proficient with MS Office


Bachelor's degree in safety or related field required
