Requisition Summary
The Powertrain Validation Program Supervisor will lead validation engineers focused on the planning, execution, and successful completion of all validation testing in support of powertrain related programs.
This supervisory position is responsible for managing workload, work processes, test processes and plans, and metrics reporting. This position will be responsible for ensuring all major new development program’s Failure Mode and Effect Analysis' (FMEAs) are complete, and thorough; identify all failure risks, and ensure they remain up to date. They will also ensure that the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVPR) addresses all risks and Requests for Testing Services (RTS) are submitted and tracked to completion in the DVPR.
Additionally, this position will manage test priorities meeting program requirements and ensure test properties are built correctly and on-time to meet test schedules. The supervisor will promote a positive, collaborative team environment and manage group resources to achieve assigned department objectives. This position will require a self-motivated person, that can operate with minimal supervision and occasionally require independent evaluation.
Job Functions / Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and day to day team direction of the powertrain validation team.
- Assign team members tasks and ensure the development and completion of tasks are complete
- Develop, track and report program related metrics
- Perform project management tasks for the team, planning, and coordinating team activities
- Establish and maintain cooperative and productive work relations with all other departments
- Identify program validation defects and support the review process to ensure program awareness
- Foster a team environment - coaches personnel to work together to resolve issues, share knowledge and abilities, and learn independent decision-making
- Work with assigned staff to establish and meet goals as a first level supervisor of an engineering team
- Ensure Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEAs) are complete, thorough, and up to date in WRR. Work with Engineering Design and Reliability teams to complete FMEAs.
- Identify program risks from FMEAs
- Track and review Design Verification Plan and Report (DVPR) in WRR to address program risks.
- Track, review and generate Requests for Testing Services (RTS) to validate risks have been successfully mitigated
- Manage test priorities ensuring higher priority projects have precedent in the testing schedule
- Ensure validation results from RTSs are documented in the DVPR in WRR
- Manage test properties, ensuring they are built correctly and on-time to meet program validation deliverables.
- Schedule activities and resolves resource conflicts and programmatic validation issues

- Actively look for new ideas, trends, and technologies that will allow PACCAR to enhance the product and/or reduce costs
- Work with staff to establish annual goals. Reviews personnel performance for progress and improvement. Counsels and develops personnel to exceed expectations
- Prepare and conduct annual performance reviews for each direct report
- Ensure staff receives appropriate training for safety and equipment operation
- Serve as the lead Program Validation Engineer subject matter expert with a strong focus on powertrain validation planning, development, execution and tracking of all related validation procedures and status
- Apply knowledge of validation results and its correlation to risk mitigation
- Analyze and submit project requests, discusses project requirements with requestors and formulates preliminary project plans and schedules
- Work with the Design Engineers and Test Engineers to develop new tests if required.
- Participate in set up of tests, data collection and analysis
- Write reports, as appropriate, incorporating results, conclusions, and recommendations
- Present results of test or investigative projects to divisions or management personnel
- Develop and maintain a high level of familiarity with PACCAR products and service tools
- Up to 10% travel can be expected
Skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross functional teams and programs
- Proficiency with PACCAR systems, processes, procedures and validation practices & principles.
- Use of established engineering processes and techniques and be resourceful in solving complex technical problems.
- Requires independent judgment and effective project management skills.
- Familiarity with vehicle and system level validation testing, practices and principles
- Strong working knowledge of DFMEA, FMEA and WRR systems. WRR Facilitator certification preferred
- Proficiency with PowerPoint and presentation skills is required.
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, Project, and related computer software required.
- Ability to learn on the fly and adapt to change.
- Demonstrated team player with high level of initiative, follow through and flexibility.
- Must be detail oriented and capable of multi-tasking workload.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related degree is required.
- 5 - 7+ years of engineering experience related to reliability or design quality testing
