Requisition Summary


This requisition is for a Commodity Manager for Capital Equipment and Construction Projects. A Commodity Manager is a purchasing professional who has, or develops, specific commercial expertise in the products and services under their responsibility. That expertise includes networking with the companies in the industry to understand their core competencies. A Commodity Manager has, or develops, cross-functional knowledge in the technical, financial, and legal aspects of those products and services. 


The selected individual will be responsible for partnering with and supporting internal business units, functional groups, and associated stakeholders, while executing strategic sourcing, category management, and supplier relationship management initiatives. This position will be responsible for managing PACCAR’s commercial relationship with capital equipment manufacturers, commercial construction contractors, and fabricators of returnable-racks for production parts, as well as driving commercial strategies to control costs and mitigate risk. Some examples of capital equipment are robotics to assemble or paint trucks, and autonomously guided vehicles for the movement of truck components in manufacturing facilities. Returnable racking is used to transport truck components and assemblies. 

The ideal candidate will be a proven change agent in the field of Purchasing and large-contract management, focused on delivering the highest value of products and services to internal and external customers at the lowest total cost.


Work location will be at Peterbilt, in Denton TX.


Job Functions / Responsibilities


•    Provide purchasing support, representation, and participation in all issues related to assigned Capital Equipment, Construction Projects, and Product Racking commodities.
•    Responsibilities may include supervision of one to two people, depending on the qualifications of the candidate.
•    Support the development of strategic sourcing events, supplier and negotiation strategies, and work plans, in conjunction with stakeholders, and support execution to established timelines.
•    Manage the negotiation of contractual terms and conditions in close coordination with PACCAR’s legal team.
•    Support the identification and evaluation of suppliers that meet the organization's standards of quality, value, timing, service, and reliability of supply.
•    Identify qualified best-cost-country suppliers and advocate for their inclusion in competitive bidding.
•    Manage suppliers for multiple manufacturing and other business locations within assigned commodity categories, to ensure the lowest total cost of ownership. The scope of this position requires working closely with multiple departments, plants, and executive leaders.
•    Negotiate and manage all aspects of PACCAR relationships with suppliers, including commercial and contractual requirements with respect to total cost, implementation, schedule, and performance, while minimizing risk.
•    Facilitate Supplier Relationship Management efforts, including strategic segmentation and supplier rationalization.
•    Manage and lead Purchasing process improvements, using robust business tools to improve throughput and eliminate non-value-add activities. 
•    Work in cross-functional teams to identify and document project requirements, prepare RFQ’s, perform supplier selections, and implement projects. Work closely with the company’s Legal department to draft contracts and other documents.
•    Communicate and conduct meetings and formal presentations with suppliers, plants, divisions, and corporate personnel at all management levels.
•    Travel to supplier locations and PACCAR facilities and industry conferences to network with relevant company contacts, evaluate capabilities, assess processes, investigate new opportunities, improve product or service efficiencies, and resolve chronic supply or quality issues. This role will require < 10% travel. 


 Qualifications & Skills


•    3-5 years of purchasing, large-contract negotiations, or related experience required. The salary grade level offered to the selected candidate will be largely determined by experience.   
•    Flexible and proactive team leader with the ability to manage multiple and diverse tasks concurrently
•    Project Management experience
•    Knowledge of capital equipment products and services desired
•    Strong team player with excellent communication skills – written, verbal, and presentation
•    Proven organization, negotiation, planning, and analytical skills  
•    Demonstrated leadership to accomplish company goals
•    Business, industry, and commodity acumen
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite skills, including data mining, summarization, and presentation
•    Prior experience in project management and/or cost estimation of construction projects desired 


Education/Training


Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field required. Masters or MBA preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
