Job Summary
This Applications Engineering position will serve as a liaison between Sales, Marketing and Engineering to provide technical support including weight distribution analysis, powertrain information (engines, transmissions, axles, and cooling packages), frame rail guidelines, turning radius analysis, driveline calculations, auxiliary transmission reviews and general vehicle knowledge.
Here's what you will do in this role:
- Communicate with dealers, body builders and customers in a professional manner to meet or exceed their vehicle spec’ing needs. Identify options and alternatives to simplify and improve the chassis spec’ing process. This includes answering phone calls, responding to emails, and completing spec reviews.
- Create quote chassis using the SmartSpec sales tool for customer quotes.
- Update and create new versions of the Engineering Data Book and Body Builder Manuals.
- Provide vehicle weight information for use in SmartSpec and EASOP. Provide weight estimates to assist customers and dealers during the specification process.
- Provide customer assistance on gearing recommendations to meet the customer’s powertrain optimization goals.
- Review Engine Support Center requests for customer programming changes with MX Engines in the field.
- Participate in customer reviews as the technical resource supporting the Sales Department.
- Work with engineering groups on various design projects and provide customer related information and issues.
- Create Applications procedures and review supplier guidelines.
- Support other departments with information, layouts, pictures, etc.
- Interface with other PACCAR divisions representing Peterbilt’s requirements on various Applications related subjects.
- Test and support the implementation of software, including PVP (PACCAR Vehicle Pro), EASOP/SmartSpec tools for gearing optimization.
- Use Creo to create/review chassis related items such as PTO clearances, frame layouts and general support.
- Support 3D Model file requests from body builders using Creo.
You're going to need this to be successful:

- Extensive knowledge and use of PACCAR systems such as COPICS, OPS, EASOP and PCMS strongly preferred. Knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required.
- Knowledge of product Applications guidelines, Frame Engineering book and Engineering Data Book strongly preferred.
- Creo experience creating drawings preferred.
- Powertrain/chassis experience preferred

Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred.
