Requisition Summary

Do you want to work at a company at the cutting edge and gain extensive knowledge of self-driving and zero-emissions vehicle technology?  If so, then a career in PACCAR’s Tax Department as a Tax Technical Writer is for you!

Although this role is within the Tax Department, a tax background is preferred but not required.  This role will be a key player in developing an understanding of and documenting all research and development project across the U.S. that can qualify for an income tax credit.  Through meetings with subject matter experts, document review and self-education, you will get to know the intricacies of PACCAR’s most advanced programs.  Including everything from our product line of zero-emissions vehicles and self-driving technology to advanced manufacturing processes. 

 

This position is located at PACCAR’s Bellevue, Washington office.

 

 

Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manage the documentation of Research and Development activities for applicable income tax credits.
  • Gather and summarize engineering and operational documents from disparate systems.
  • Organize annual meetings with subject matter experts to review qualifying activities.
  • Stay abreast of the federal and state research and development regulations and court cases related to the research and development credits.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of PACCAR’s product and manufacturing roadmaps.
  • Develop and maintain a network of potential collaborators including engineering, six sigma, accounting, and operations departments.
  • Develop and maintain other written communications and documentation required for tax purposes.
  • Additional assignments will be given based on your experience and aptitude to learn and apply new concepts.
  • Provide written and verbal updates to key stakeholders.
  • Reports to the Assistant Tax Director

 

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • BA/BS degree in technical writing, English, engineering, or equivalent experience.  MS or LLM degree in tax with excellent writing skills is also acceptable.
  • Technical writing/editing: The ability to develop, document, and communicate technical information and data effectively to appropriate audiences. This includes writing clear and detailed procedures, checklists, specifications, and reports.
  • Research and analysis: The ability to collect and accumulate technical information through researching and analyzing various sources such as technical data, publications, engineering drawings, and test procedures. This also includes interviewing technical experts to gather relevant information.
  • Attention to detail: Ensuring accuracy of documents by identifying and correcting technical and editorial errors, as well as paying attention to formatting and visual representation of information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills: The ability to grasp complex concepts quickly, identify issues, and develop innovative solutions to a variety of complex problems.
  • Project management: The ability to plan, coordinate, and lead efforts of a small-medium sized team to successfully complete projects. This includes ensuring documents are developed in accordance with requested specifications and contractual requirements.
  • Self-directed and resourceful with excellent business acumen.
  • Ability to navigate through multiple document retention platforms.
