Requisition Summary

 

This position is located within the Advanced Technologies organization at the PACCAR Technical Center with focus on modeling heavy duty and medium duty electric trucks and powertrains. The person is required to perform computational analyses, primarily with 1-D software and MATLAB/Simulink. Responsibilities include model development, validation and application, leading & guiding discussions with suppliers concerning requirements and design details to meet performance target. The person will engage with other divisions (Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF) as well as external organizations in collaborative activities.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

 

  • Use CAE tools to develop / improve energy management solutions for HD and MD trucks with electrified powertrains 
  • Lead and guide requirement development, component selection as well as design details for vehicle electrification with use case and driving cycle analyses
  • Develop plant models for Model In the loop (MIL) to Hardware In the loop (HIL) and support controls development
  • Validation and improvement of model fidelity as well as analysis process by managing correlations with suppliers’ data and on-site tests
  • Execute design optimizations using computational tools
  • Report and communicate results to team and stakeholders

Qualifications

 

Required

  • 2+ years of experience with 1-D system modeling (e.g., GT-Suite), particularly for powertrain and vehicle systems
  • Solid thermodynamics background, particularly on energy storage, exchange and recovery
  • Fundamentals in e-powertrain technologies
  • Good understanding of design optimization, edge case identification
  • Excellent documentation, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated for challenges and innovation

 

Preferred

 

  • Proficiency with MATLAB coding and/or other programming languages
  • Solid background on battery technologies
  • Experience with co-simulations including controls

Education

 

B.S. or graduate degree (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar fields
