Requisition Summary

The new PACCAR Silicon Valley Innovation Center, located in Sunnyvale California, will focus on identifying and advancing emerging technology research and development for all of PACCAR’s businesses. The PACCAR Silicon Valley Innovation Center is looking for an ambitious and self-directed Systems Architecture Manager! Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Build and lead an expert team of system/software engineers to develop autonomous truck software that essentially performs functions similar to a driver:
    • Consuming sensor data and determining the next truck maneuver
    • Architect robust computing, sensing, planning and control platform
  • Develop & maintain the design, integration, and build plans for software releases, and track execution against them throughout all stages of a program.
  • Develop end to end autonomous vehicle software platforms
  • Understand and evolve system requirements, hardware component specifications and validation methods for advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous driving
  • Collaborate with offsite engineering to understand production needs to design for future mass production products
  • Develop a global approach to application software development and validation
  • Work with team to understand, evaluate and select best of breed technologies for inclusion in future systems
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities in component and system technologies
  • Understand future product viability and define key metrics
  • Architect future products to meet functional safety requirements
  • Keep abreast of emerging industry trends in the field of commercial vehicle embedded software development and technology
  • Provide written and verbal updates to senior management on program objectives and strategic goals


Skills / Competencies

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Automation or other relevant fields
  • 10+ years of experience in complex system engineering
  • Managerial leadership experience
  • Technical experience in:
    • Enabling technologies for autonomous driving including machine learning, computer vision, data mining, real-time mapping and cloud computing
    • Architecting products which have successfully gone to market
    • Model based design process, algorithm development and HIL testing
    • Automotive electronics and diagnostic instruments
    • Control, signal processing and sensor technologies
    • CAN and Ethernet networking and wireless communication protocols
    • Real-time operation systems and programming languages (ex: C, C++, Python, JavaScript, etc.)
    • ROS, ADTF, DDS, and related technologies
    • Willingness to grow personally and professionally while utilizing new engineering processes and techniques to be resourceful in solving complex technical problems
