Requisition Summary

The Director of Aviation leads PACCAR’s aviation department consisting of three jets based out of Seattle, WA and Denton, TX with services primarily throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The department consists of multi-layered groups of pilots, mechanics and schedulers. The Director of Aviation’s primary objective is to maintain a safe, efficient, operational environment while managing the support of all PACCAR aviation needs. This position reports to the Vice President of Manufacturing, and has regular interaction with PACCAR’s Chairman, CEO and other senior executives.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Leads the aviation operation to ensure the highest professional safety standards and flight operations are conducted according to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develops, implements and monitors policies as they pertain to Part 91 operations.
  • Oversees the aviation department's IS-BAO safety management system.
  • Ensures the highest level of customer service and experience is demonstrated to all staff and PACCAR employees.
  • Oversees PACCAR’s standards for flight department service contractors.
  • Maintains a strong working relationship with all aircraft users and represent the company in matters related to the National Business Aircraft Association (NBAA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Port of Seattle (POS), state and municipal aviation authorities, and community organizations.
  • Develops and manages the aviation budget, including regular purchases and long-term capital planning.
  • Monitors and ensures the staff maintains required qualifications. Ensures record keeping of employee required qualifications.
  • Supervises the aviation department to include recruitment, performance management, proper required training and adherence to regulatory requirements are followed.
  • Manages standard operating procedures and processes are maintained and accurate.
  • Ensures the maintenance and mechanical reliability of the aircraft.
  • Manages flight operations to ensure safe and efficient operations including the maintenance of a safety program.
  • Ensures flight scheduling to operate with the highest level of efficiency.
  • Coordinates with PACCAR corporate departments for support and adherence to corporate policies, particularly with accounting, law, and risk management.


  • Proven track record managing a similarly sized corporate aviation team, maintaining a stable pilot group and smooth operations.
  • Extensive operational experience in aviation and a broad knowledge of US Federal Aviation regulations, gained through a combination of formal education or commensurate military experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a strong aviation culture of safety.
  • Possesses an exemplary aviation safety record from prior management responsibilities.
  • Strong customer service skills, high attention to detail, adaptable, excellent follow-through and responsiveness.
  • Experience developing and retaining the highly qualified talent needed to operate the aviation department as well as to achieve the long-term objectives of the business.
  • Ability to lead multi-layer groups with assurance and clarity.
  • Ability to speak for the Company and in professional and public forums relating to aviation safety and regulatory activities.
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems and 14CFR Part 5.
  • Experience with aviation safety programs such as Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA), Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), Internal Evaluation Program (IEP).
  • Experience conducting risk assessments.
  • Proficiency with MS Office business systems.


Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) or equivalent in Aviation Safety, Engineering, Management or in a similar program whose major emphasis is safety and systems analysis applicable to the major aviation technical areas.



  • Holds a type rating on the Falcon 50EX.
  • Holds a current ATP and current Class 1 medical.
  • Certified by NBAA as an Aviation Manager (CAM).

Overall Knowledge of Aviation Safety:

  • Flight, ground and maintenance Operations Safety.
  • OSHA Regulations and Safety Recommendations.
  • FAA Regulations with regard to Aviation Safety and Safety Management Systems.
  • Fatigue and Fatigue Risk Management.
  • Familiarity with the NTSB investigative process and ICAO Annex 13 on Accident Investigations.
