Requisition Summary

Peterbilt Motors Company, a PACCAR Company, currently has an opportunity for a ‘Medium Duty Sales Manager – Greater Chicago Area to join our dynamic team focusing on Peterbilt’s major markets. This position reports to headquarters and will be based in the greater Chicago area. Extensive local travel and regional travel is required.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to:

  • Design and execute customer acquisition strategy.
  • Develop a target customer list and a sales plan to generate medium-duty business.
  • Interact with End Users/Customers, Sales Regions, Other PACCAR Departments, Dealer Sales Managers, and Sales Teams to promote and sell the medium-duty product line.
  • Accumulate market information to develop, recommend and execute strategic direction for pricing, cost, orders, and option availability for Peterbilt medium-duty product line.
  • Sell products in cooperation with our dealer distributor channels.
  • Assist in the development of marketing programs that are creative to help sell Peterbilt Medium Duty products.
  • Work with our major suppliers, PacLease and PACCAR Financial, to develop programs together that will help sell the medium-duty product line.
  • Build new customer relationships and mature them through the sales transaction to grow Peterbilt’s Medium Duty market share.

Skills / Competencies

This position may be a fit for you if you have strong sales experience and abilities; an understanding of business-to-business sales; ability to meet and exceed challenging business goals through planning and execution; build relationships from initiation to close and maintain throughout the next sales cycles, and can successfully use a presentation format in communicating with major customers.

Candidates must possess a positive attitude, high levels of energy, enjoy developing and maintaining strong customer relationships, and be a self-starter. The ideal candidate should reside in the Greater Chicago Area and extensive travel within this area is required.

  • Ability to build relationships with Dealers, Customers, Industry Stakeholders, and Associated Professional Groups.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to prospect business for market share growth.
  • Close sales; manage sales cycles.
  • Ability to quickly acquire and apply complex product knowledge.
  • Strong Microsoft office skills, including PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.
  • Tech savviness is welcome.


A Bachelor’s Degree is required, with an MBA desirable.
