Requisition Summary
PACCAR is a global truck technology leader with operations around the world. The Digital Solutions team is helping PACCAR make better decisions faster by moving to the cloud, adopting DevOps/CICD best practices, and unlocking a new level of productivity & value. We are looking for technology leaders to drive this evolution.


We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator of Oracle and PostgreSQL databases with an ability to manage hundreds enterprise level databases in a scalable database solution. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about learning new technologies and implementing solutions using these technologies to empower internal customers and scale the existing platform. The ideal candidate demonstrates solid business and communication skills and ability to work with business and technical teams. In this role, you will serve as the expert at designing, implementing, and maintaining stable, scalable, low cost database solutions.  The Database Administrator will design, develop, implement, test, document, and operate large-scale, high-volume, high-performance database structures. Implement data structures using best practices in data modeling. Will perform tasks such as PostgreSQL installations, database backups and restores, database creation, refreshes, application of DB patches, review of DB for performance enhancements and monitoring for availability are performed regularly.  He/she will be tuning performance on queries running over millions of rows of data. The person in this position should be analytical, have an extremely high level of customer focus and a passion for process improvement. The Database Administrator should be motivated self-starter that can work independently in a fast paced, ambiguous environment and should have excellent business acumen and communication skills to be able to work with business owners to develop and define key business questions.


Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Experience in a complex Oracle database environment.
  • Administration, configuration and installation of PostgreSQL Databases
  • Assist developers with debugging and tuning of Oracle Stored Procedures and batch Oracle programs.
  • Design, implement, and support Oracle databases in online transaction and batch environments.  
  • Ability to tune ORACLE queries using EXPLAIN.
  • Generate scripts to migrate ORACLE schema changes between environments using ORACLE admin tools. 
  • Familiar with DevOps methodology to automate database deployment.
  • Experience with ORACLE native SQL procedures.
  • Develop simple and complex Postgres stored procedures, functions and views to meet enhancement requirements.
  • Good understanding of relational data modeling including physical database design using ERWin data modeler or other similar tool. 
  • Provide database support estimate for new projects.
  • Develop ETL strategies for integrating data from multiple sources in data warehouses
  • Adhere to and enforce database standards.
  • Introduce and deploy new database features.
  • Ensure security is integrated into all data solutions to meet compliance standards.
  • Performing PostgreSQL, Oracle and MySQL DB patching, investigate and remediate vulnerabilities
  • Perform onsite database recovery/restore as required. 
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery procedure and validation.
  • Support ORACLE and Postgres database upgrades.
  • Design, develop, and migrate Oracle on AIX to Oracle on Linux.
  • Assist Data Engineer in moving data from Oracle to distributed systems using an ETL tool, such as Attunity.


Qualifications & Skills

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years relevant experience as an ORACLE DBA in a z/OS environment using Oracle utilities, including experience with Linux, evaluating dump output, is required. 
  • Proven database design and development experience in an AIX and Linux environment is required (preferably including ORACLE). 
    • Oracle DBA experience in an online environment is desirable. 
    • Working knowledge in both UNIX and windows platforms including cross-platform data access is desirable.
    • Experience with ORACLE stored procedures, Erwin are all pluses.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in PostgreSQL Server or equivalent database administration, patch management, maintenance of Replication/DR Environment and performance tuning.
  • Expertise with SQL and relational database systems.
  • PostgreSQL, Oracle and/or MySQL experience or certification
  • Proven experience with integrations from oracle to Postgres
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts.
  • Knowledge of data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets.
  • Knowledge of modeling logical/business data requirements in a data model tool, such as ERWin data modeler.
  • Ability to support multiple RDBMS technologies and work in the AWS cloud environment is a plus.
  • Experience in generating scripts for physical database deployment.
  • Ability to teach data modeling and data design concept to IT and business people.
  • Familiarity with Cloud, NoSQL, and Hadoop data technologies.
  • Familiarity with dimensional and data vault modeling techniques.
  • Knowledge of more than one database platform, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle and Teradata.
  • Knowledge of standard data model reports.
  • Must have knowledge of data normalization and denormalization techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including active listening, problem solving when under pressure, and facilitation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • New technologies are desired, such as Python scripting language and C#.
  • Amazon AWS experience is desired

  • Prolonged sitting and manual dexterity are required. This position is in an office/desk work setting.
