The Role

The Manager, Cloud and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) will lead and manage organization-wide cloud SRE activities and have technical responsibilities for core AWS and GCP platforms throughout the organization.

 

The Cloud and Site Reliability Engineering team builds, deploys, operates, sustains, and grows the software systems that build, scale, monitor, secure, manage, and automate PACCAR’s cloud services. The team drives the stability and sustainability of next-generation systems and discovers innovative ways to scale and operate them reliably. In this role, you will work with Systems and Software Engineers to create proactive engineering mechanisms that will enable the team to manage the health of cloud services, distributed server fleets, and the software stacks across AWS, GCP and Azure. You will deploy and monitor the systems and automation to ensure that tooling is operating optimally. You will utilize trends and metrics to identify opportunities for improvements within existing frameworks, tools, and processes to continuously improve systems.

 

The Manager, Cloud and Site Reliability Engineering will report to the Director, Digital Services in PACCAR’s Information Technology Division.

The Cloud Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team handles complex cloud integrations and is accountable for improving the performance, resiliency, visibility, availability and reliability of AWS and GCP cloud technology infrastructure at PACCAR. Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Lead the team of SREs who oversee the enterprise-wide AWS and GCP platforms, automating using Docker, Terraform, Gitflow, Jenkins, or an equivalent.
  • Apply SRE best practices to consult, coach and provide oversight to development, business, and systems teams in defining and implementing Service Level Objective’s (SLO’s) and Service Level Indicators (SLI’s).
  • Work with System Engineers, Developers, Architects, and DevOps engineers to design and implement automated solutions with CI/CD Pipelines for infrastructure and software build, deployment, and configuration.
  • Solve problems, from epic to the mundane, effectively translating design requirements into engineering tasks and building system components, integrating appropriate technologies as needed.
  • Build scalable production systems from start to finish, adhering to the business needs and incorporating security, scalability, high availability, telemetry, and observability.
  • Ensure cloud and software costs are well managed, implementing tagging, cloud cost management, and utilization optimization, and exploring opportunities to reduce costs, improve function, and inject enterprise value.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex, long term initiatives.
  • Proactively support product health by building solutions that are automated, scalable, and sustainable – be relentlessly focused on minimizing defects and technical debt.
  • Deliver with team spirit in mind (partner with team members, ensure they understand the work being done) to ensure project success, and drive the team's agile delivery methodology.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 5 - 7 years of related industry experience.
  • 2+ years of managerial experience.
  • Sees the big picture from business perspective.
  • Does not fear complexity or scale, viewing problems as opportunities.
  • Software-centric mindset, comfortable with coding, relishing change and frequent releases.
  • Experience managing and deploying scaled cloud systems in AWS and/or GCP with a focus on operational excellence.
  • Experience working with high-availability, distributed systems and services in a hosting environment including hardware, OS, storage, network, and database solutions
  • Experience delivering projects in a highly collaborative, multi-discipline team environment, communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical partners.
  • Demonstrated direct leadership of individual contributors (training, coaching, mentoring, performance management and development)
  • Experience working in an Agile Scrum team environment

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Information Technology or related experience
  • Masters’ degree preferred

The salary range for the Manager, Cloud and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is $102,700 - $160,700 annually. Additionally, this role is eligible for a full range of benefit options listed above. This position is also eligible for a holiday gift.
