Industrial/Transportation Design Intern, Summer 2019


Kenworth Truck Company Design and Styling:

  • As a Design Intern at Kenworth R&D, you’ll be hands on contributing creatively to production and concept projects. The scope of projects can range from interior, exterior, component, and UI/UX design to case studies, CMF, motion graphics and research. People you work with will include Designers, Product Planners and Engineers. Projects you’ll work on will include portfolio and confidential (not to be shared) design work.
  • A Design Intern at Kenworth R&D is engaged, personally responsible, presents strong and clear points of view via visual and verbal mediums, collaborates on design, meets schedules and company goals, & supports other teams as needed.
  • At Kenworth R&D, Designers employ tacit knowledge working on extraordinarily dynamic components and large-scale products/systems and their application to new challenges at a global scale.

  • Manage projects while working with multidisciplinary teams to meet personal and design goals.
  • Express ideas and concepts through strong visual/verbal communication.
  • Communicate and present through sketches, 2D/3D renderings and prototypes/models/mockups with strong attention to detail.
  • Be responsible for ideation as well as proper implementation of ideas.
  • Manage multiple projects at appropriate levels of involvement.
  • Be curious, tenacious and yourself.



Minimum qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a full time BA/BS or MS degree program in Industrial Design or related field, and returning to the program after the completion of the internship.
  • A fresh, original portfolio of diverse creative work (please include link to portfolio on your resume).
  • Authorization to work in the United States of America.


Bonus qualifications:

  • Understanding of global trends, technology, fashion, psychology, art and science.
  • Ability to support design teams and processes from pre-concept to post production.
  • Advanced 3D Visualization skills in Alias, SolidWorks, Rhino, ProE, Vred, and or Maya.
  • Inspiring 2D skills via sketching, Illustrator, Photoshop, Painter and etc.
  • UI/UX, Motion Graphics and Graphic Design experience/knowledge/interest.
  • Strong storytelling skills and techniques.
  • A self-managing, motivated and entrepreneurial nature.
  • Ability to read all of this and imagine how fun working here is.
