Embedded Systems Cyber-Security Intern

 

Position Description:

  • Shape the security of transportation systems in this technical internship supporting cyber-security of heavy-duty vehicle electrical/electronic & software systems. Explore this new and rapidly expanding field of applied software and systems security and vehicle design.

 

Duties:

  • Perform risk and threat assessments of current and forward model vehicle systems
  • Participate in prioritization of response
  • Support updates to software development process standards to incorporate current best practices in secure development techniques and tools
  • Consult with EE system architects to achieve continuous improvement in vehicle security with each future update
  • Disseminate awareness of risks, opportunities, and best practices to key personnel across company locations
  • Collaborate with corporate purchasing and supplier quality organizations to establish standard contractual terms and assessment practices to enhance cyber-security within the supply chain
  • Liaise with IT Security to remain aligned on goals and strategy
  • Participate in automotive information sharing and assessment center (ISAC) activities as a PACCAR representative
  • Help assess technology proposals from external suppliers for their potential to provide effective information security, intrusion detection, and/or protection of vehicle operation
  • Coordinate internal and external assessments, penetration tests, and related security evaluation activity
  • Conduct training sessions to enhance embedded cyber-security awareness and capabilities within the company

 

Qualifications:

  • Current student in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent/related field
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, lean, collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good planning/tracking skills
  • Competency with standard office software (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, etc)
  • Able to learn and use new processes and techniques and resourcefully solve complex technical issues
  • Determined commitment to reliability, value, quality, and safety in all aspects of work
  • Willingness to grow continuously, both personally and professionally and a strong results orientation
  • Commitment to continuously learning broader skills in adjacent disciplines
  • Experience and/or coursework in a combination of (1) real-time software, vehicle electronics and controls, embedded systems, or similar areas; and (2) information security, encryption, penetration testing, threat modeling/analysis, or related fields

 

Additional Valued Attributes:

  • Familiarity with AGILE software development processes
  • Familiarity with requirements tracking and software test/validation tools
  • Knowledge of requirements capture, simulation, software configuration, defect tracking/reporting tools
  • Awareness of heavy duty commercial truck design, especially in areas that impact electrical/electronic architecture and functionality
  • Understanding of structured product development processes
  • Automotive electronic systems engineering
