Requisiton Summary

The Design/Styling Manager is an experienced, skilled designer capable of managing a high-performance, focused team of Designers, Digital Sculptors & Studio Modelers.  The Manager provides oversight and direction to develop high-quality solutions that meet packaging and design constraints which exceed customer expectations. The Manager is responsible for constructing and maintaining development schedules as well as interfacing with Engineering development teams, Suppliers and Vendors. The Design/Styling Manager reports to the Design Director.

 

Job Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Assess priorities, delegate assignments, and oversee efficient & timely completion of projects.
  • Mentor, coach and lead a highly creative team to deliver their best work.  Foster individual growth by providing timely, constructive feedback.
  • Create and implement innovative and well thought-out design solutions for future exterior and interior truck designs.
  • Develop and manage the scheduling, resources and budget for multiple projects concurrently.
  • Work effectively with product planning, engineering, marketing and suppliers.
  • Effectively manage relationships with fabricators, vendors and service providers.
  • Express concepts with strong written and verbal skills, as well as through sketches and renderings.
  • Deliver formal presentations to various levels of management and customers with concise verbal and visual communication.

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills.  Must foster a highly collaborative, creative environment.
  • Must be able to develop constructive relationships across departments and across divisions (PB and DAF).
  • Flexibility to meet changing priorities.
  • Knowledge of tools and materials required for automotive/truck industrial design.
  • Ability to produce innovative and creative solutions for product development and complete projects within allocated resources/timing.
  • Excellent concept presentation skills and confidence in delivering to senior management.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Strong technical skills with knowledge of Alias, scanning and milling.
  • Knowledge of clay model development from sketch to Class A surface creation.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge and application of engineering, manufacturing, and service feasibility criteria relative to the design of trucks or related products.
  • Strong team player. 
  • Willingness to travel.


Required Experience and Education:

  • Proven artistic ability with 15+ years professional vehicle design studio experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Industrial Design supervision experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven (in studio) transportation design experience.
  • Portfolio required demonstrating skills/projects and presentation and organization capabilities.
  • BS, BA, or BFA degree in Industrial Design with transportation specialty.
  • MBA a plus.
