Division Information

PACCAR Parts operates a network of parts distribution centers offering aftermarket support to Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF dealers and customers around the world. Aftermarket support includes customer call centers operating 24 hours a day throughout the year and technologically advanced systems to enhance inventory control and expedite order processing.

Requisition Summary

The Data Scientist provides exploratory data analyses and advanced data models for PACCAR Parts by using industry-leading tools such as AWS, Snowflake, Python/R, and others designed to build and deploy machine learning models and workflows. The Data Scientist will also be a technical lead in data science and data analysis concepts to other Associate Data Scientist and aspiring Data Analysts. 

This position is a part of the PPD Advanced Analytics team, a collaborative team who creates analytics solutions across PACCAR Parts. This team works on high-impact and high-visibility projects. Team members present their work to senior executives, helping shape not only PPD’s current business, but its long term analytics strategy. 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Serve as an expert on PACCAR Parts data sources
  • Build & deploy advanced analytics solutions using machine learning, statistics, or other mathematical concepts for business departments
  • Develop advanced analytics models; including creating, validating, analyzing and explaining the data used for model development
  • Lead conversations with stakeholders to gather project requirements and relevant information leading to better feature engineering 
  • Present exploratory data analysis findings and project solutions to leadership
  • Lead technical trainings on SQL, Python/R, Tableau, and data analysis to team members or in division trainings
  • Candidate must demonstrate strong analytical skills, excellent general business acumen, with the ability to concisely and clearly communicate complex topics.
  • Able to work with stakeholders from any department to develop new analytics solutions, identify necessary data, and support analytics best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (quantitative field preferred)
  • Masters in Data Science, Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science, or related field preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience in an data analyst role required
  • 1-2 years of experience demonstrating experience as an associate data scientist preferred
  • Experience with SQL, Python/R, and GitHub required
  • Experience using supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods required
  • Experience or knowledge of optimization methods preferred
  • Experience with data visualization preferred (Tableau)
  • Must be a highly-motivated self-starter and self-directed learner with a creative mind, high attention to detail and a solution-oriented outlook
  • Ability to succeed in a multi-functional business environment and influence adoption of new ideas
