Requisition Summary

This position is located within the Advanced Powertrain organization at PTC and involves developing and applying simulation tools to support powertrain development. Responsibilities include development of next-generation electrified powertrain systems and engines for on-road truck applications. This includes analysis and optimization of advanced technologies for PACCAR’s integrated powertrain.  Additional responsibilities include interfacing with truck divisions (Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF).  The person will also work with external research and engineering organizations that are partnered with PACCAR.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Simulate and evaluate advanced heavy-duty vehicle powertrain concepts
  • Develop and correlate 1-D simulations of vehicles with electrified powertrains
  • Optimize electrified powertrain designs
  • Optimize vehicle energy management strategies
  • Develop and correlate 1-D engine simulations
  • Optimize engine mechanics, flows, and performance
  • Communicate results and recommendations to team and stakeholders on a regular basis
  • Cooperate with cross-divisional counterparts
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies, tools, and methods
  • Work with the team to facilitate technology transfer to relevant PACCAR divisions

Qualifications

Required: 

  • 5 years experience in 1D simulation, preferably applied to heavy duty vehicle systems
  • Strong background in powertrain simulation and development
  • Background in powertrain controls
  • Background in simulation of diesel engines
  • In-depth knowledge of 1-D simulation tools (e.g. GT-Power, AVL Cruise).
  • Demonstrated skills and experience correlating 1D models with experimental data
  • Previously demonstrated strong technical knowledge, analysis, and communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, be a self-starter and have demonstrated high levels of initiative and innovation.

     

    Desired:

  • Experience with Mathworks Simulink modeling and co-simulation with other 1D packages
  • Knowledge of design optimization tools
  • Experience with turbocharger matching

Education

Masters or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Engineering Physics
