The main function of this job is to assist test engineers and technicians with design, assembly and/or modification of test fixtures and related hydraulic and electronic controllers for structural validation of PACCAR products.  Responsibilities include all phases from initial fixture design and fabrication to set up and operation.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Set up servo-hydraulic equipment and related test controllers for structural validation.
  • Install instrumentation, including, accelerometers, strain gauges, deflection transducers, thermocouples, and pressure transducers
  • Set up and operate related Data Acquisition hardware necessary for component testing.
  • Work in teams to complete mechanical setup of test stands, including electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic hookups.
  • Operate a multitude of control software to run test stands and other structural test-systems.
  • Fabricate and/or assemble test fixtures based on blueprint, concepts, or verbal direction.
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and basic organization.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working with, and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of general engineering, electrical and hydraulic theory, and practices.
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings of electrical/mechanical equipment, test fixtures and assemblies.
  • Must have good mechanical aptitude and able to use power and hand tools.
  • Must have good troubleshooting skills.
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Good mathematical, writing, and verbal communication.
  • Good computer and software skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Must be able to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Must be able to work safely and with minimal supervision.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of applicable experience.
  • Working knowledge of AC/DC electronics, Wheatstone Bridge theory, and basic electrical circuitry
  • Experience with test equipment including pneumatic and hydraulic actuators and controllers
  • Understanding of closed-loop PID control principles.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation transducers including load cells, strain gages, accelerometers, and displacement sensors.
  • Knowledge of Data Acquisition hardware and software including DEWESoft or National Instruments
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC) and software programmers such as Do-more Controller Programmer, Allen-Bradley or equivalent “ladder logic” software.

Education

Associates degree in applicable field required.
