Test Automation Supervisor Job

The Test Automation Supervisor will work with and lead a group focused on the development and implementation of advanced automation scripts, methods, and tools used to verify software functionality on PACCAR Trucks, including Battery Electric (BEV) and Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS). The role is responsible for managing the group workload and work processes, identifying new automation opportunities, and constantly increasing overall levels of test coverage and automation. The Test Automation Supervisor will work closely, and often side-by-side, with their direct reports to achieve the team’s goals. They will promote a collaborative team environment and manage group resources to achieve overall department objectives. 


Leadership and Direction:

 

 

  • Performs as a team player, supporting and carrying out higher level decisions in a positive manner
  • Fosters a team environment – coaches personnel to work together to resolve issues, share knowledge and abilities, and learn independent decision-making
  • Schedules group activities and resolves resource conflicts
  • Actively looks for new ideas, trends, and technologies that will allow PACCAR to enhance the product and/or reduce costs
  • Leads optimization efforts through hands-on work and understanding of technical details
  • Challenges the status quo of current testing methodologies

 
Employee Performance and Development:

 

 

  • Works with staff to establish annual goals. Reviews personnel performance for progress and improvement. Counsels and develops personnel to exceed expectations
  • Prepares and conducts annual performance reviews for each direct report
  • Ensures staff receives appropriate training for safety and equipment operation

 

Project Management:

 

  • Develop, track, and report automation related metrics
  • Coordinates with other department roles to manage group resources to complete department tasks.
  • Manages resources to balance workload between projects and programs
  • Assists in implementing aSPICE best practices
  • Uses Six Sigma techniques to effectively improve processes
  • Tracks Functional Safety items at the testing level

 

Education and Work Experience:

 

 

  • BS degree in appropriate engineering discipline with a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.
  • Proven ability to lead in a team environment
  • Excellent technical and communication skills
  • Ability to manage personal workload and willingness, flexibility and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands 
  • In depth knowledge of PACCAR electrical and electronic components, their software, and CAN communication protocols. 


Job Functions / Responsibilities

 

  • Manage resources to balance workload between projects and programs
  • Coordinates with other department roles to manage group resources to complete department tasks 
  • Interprets function requirements to identify opportunities to innovate
  • Works with test automation engineers to develop cutting edge methods for verification
  • Leverages experience to introduce efficiencies in the verification process
  • Identifies gaps in test bench capabilities.  Helps specify changes needed to meet automation goals
  • Fosters good communications.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative and productive work relations with all other departments.
  • Travel up to 10%


Qualifications & Skills

 

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in development, test, or definition of vehicle software 
  • Experience with Controller Area Network (CAN) operation, especially J1939
  • Experience with dSpace products a plus
  • Experience testing on vehicle a plus
  • Some familiarity with coding languages/environments such as Python, scripting languages, C#, C++, Simulink, etc.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment 
  • Ability to summarize complex technical issues simply and communicate effectively 
  • Ability to manage personal workload and willingness, flexibility and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands 
  • Strong presentation skills
