The PACCAR Powertrain Validation group is responsible for developmental, current, and prior model year system level testing of engine, transmission, vehicle, and exhaust aftertreatment hardware and software for development and current product programs.  Group members develop specialized roles (engine, transmission software, vehicle performance, aftertreatment systems, etc.) while maintaining cross-disciplinary training and knowledge.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 
 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Serves as a Powertrain Validation Engineer subject matter expert for post model year running changes
  • Develops test plans, organizes required resources, executes on truck testing, analyzes data, and reports out engineering results
  • Conducts and assists in the coordination of running changes with DAF and Division engineers
  • Flashes software/calibrations and installs data loggers to ensure accurate data collection and reporting
  • Sets up and conducts targeted testing in accordance with the test plan
  • Reports and tracks data for running business test trucks
  • Performs daily monitoring, reporting, and recording of fault codes
  • Analyzes faults and truck performance using MATLAB and other engineering tools
  • Coordinates with respective engineers for deeper evaluations of fault performance and false fail concerns
  • Coordinates all maintenance activities with vehicle operations
  • Conducts truck configuration set up, and coordinates repair and maintenance 
  • Orders required parts, tracks delivery, and ensures installation of required equipment
  • Analyzes project requests, evaluates project requirements with requestors and formulates preliminary project plans, budgets, and schedules
  • Designs fixtures and specifies instrumentation, equipment, vehicles, loading configurations, and data processing techniques
  • Leads test setups, verifies that test equipment and instrumentation equipment meets specified requirements and performs preliminary software and data checks
  • Orchestrates data collection and analysis
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts projects of moderate scope with minimal supervision
  • Writes reports, as appropriate, incorporating results, conclusions, and recommendations
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative and productive work relations with all other departments
  • Develops and maintains a high level of familiarity with PACCAR products and service tools
  • Presents results of test or investigative projects to divisions or management personnel
  • Off-site testing requires up to 10% travel
     

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months of truck/automotive related work experience desired
  • Ability to manage personal workload and willingness, flexibility and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands.
  • Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively
  • Self-directed, excellent analysis and technical judgment required
  • Powertrain hardware and software testing experience highly desirable
     

Education

  • BS degree in appropriate engineering discipline
  • MS preferred
