The PACCAR Powertrain Validation group is responsible for developmental, current, and prior model year system level testing of engine, transmission, vehicle, and exhaust aftertreatment hardware and software for multiple programs.  Group members develop specialized roles (engine, transmission, vehicle performance, aftertreatment systems, etc.) while maintaining cross-disciplinary training and knowledge.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

• Serves as a Powertrain Validation transmission subject matter expert providing insight, development, and tracking of all aspects of transmission validation testing
• Analyzes project requests, discusses project requirements with requestors and formulates preliminary project plans, budgets, and schedules
• Plans, coordinates, and conducts transmission projects of moderate scope with minimal supervision
• Coordinates with Suppliers to understand product capabilities, requirements, risks and existing testing results to better guide development of internal testing
• Supports development of Failure Mode Element Analysis for transmissions and creates accompanying test plans
• Designs fixtures and specifies instrumentation, equipment, vehicles, configurations, loading, and data processing techniques
• Leads the setup of tests, verifies test equipment and instrumentation equipment meets specified testing requirements, reviews and verifies test data
• Orchestrates data collection and analysis and records results in appropriate data bases
• Writes reports, as appropriate, incorporating results, conclusions, and recommendations
• Establishes and maintains cooperative and productive work relations with all other departments
• Develops and maintains a high level of familiarity with PACCAR products and service tools
• Presents results of test or investigative projects to divisions or management personnel
• Off-site testing requires up to 10% travel


• 3-5 years of engineering experience strongly preferred.
• Transmission related work experience preferred
• Experience with validation testing preferred
• Ability to manage personal workload and willingness, flexibility and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands.
• Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively
• Self-directed, excellent analysis and technical judgment required
• Powertrain hardware and software testing experience a plus
• Experience with ATI Vision and CANalyzer


• BS degree in appropriate engineering discipline
• MS preferred
