Requisition Summary

This position is located within the Advanced Powertrain organization at PTC with focus on 3-D CFD analyses for HD truck powertrain systems, including engine and after-treatment system. Responsibilities include model development, validation and application to support various projects. The person is to engage with other divisions (DAF, Kenworth and Peterbilt) as well as external organizations in collaborative activities.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc. through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington.


Job Functions / Responsibilities

•    Support HD truck powertrain integration with 3-D CFD analyses of key systems (e.g., air/exhaust flow restrictions, thermal management)
•    Guide heat exchanger designs and intake / exhaust route configurations
•    Lead component design optimization using in-house computational and experimental resources
•    Model and analyze after-treatment system performance (DEF mixing, pressure drop and heat rejection)
•    Report and communicate results to team and stakeholders
•    Continuous improvement of model fidelity and analysis/development process


Required Qualifications & Skills 
•    5 years of experience in 3-D modelling (Preferably with Star-CCM+) of flow & thermal problems in vehicle powertrain systems including engines, aftertreatment, and ancillaries.
•    Ability to handle geometries in CAD, such as PTC Creo. Proficient with meshing.
•    Experience with computationally driven design optimization
•    Good understanding of physics in engine after-treatment systems
•    Solid thermo / fluid dynamics background
•    Strong documentation, presentation and interpersonal skills
•    Self-motivated to tackle challenges and generate innovative ideas

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

•    Analyses and design experience with after-treatment systems, fuel injection systems and/or waste heat recovery systems
•    In-depth understanding of chemical kinetics and its applications in practice
•    Proficiency with Java coding and/or other programming languages


B.S. or M.S. (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering or Thermodynamics related fields.
