Requisition Summary

This position is located within the Advanced Powertrain organization at PACCAR Technical Center with focus on thermal management for heavy duty diesel powertrains and vehicle electrifications. The person is required to perform computational analysis, primarily with 1-D tools. Responsibilities include model development, validation and application, leading & guiding discussions with suppliers concerning design details to meet performance target. The person is to engage with other divisions (DAF, Kenworth and Peterbilt) as well as external organizations in collaborative activities as a technical expert.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc. through innovative product development and testing. This position is located in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

 

Job Functions / Responsibilities

•    Use CAE tools to develop / improve thermal management solutions for HD diesel powertrains and electrification with integration into vehicle models. 
•    Lead and guide component selection as well as design details for vehicle electrifications, including battery cooling.
•    Develop plant models for Model In the loop (MIL) to Hardware In the loop (HIL) and support controls development
•    Continuous validation and improvement of model fidelity as well as analysis/development process by managing correlations with suppliers and on-site test and computational resources
•    Execute design optimizations using computational tools
•    Report and communicate results to team and stakeholders

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Skills  

•    5 years of experience with 1-D modeling, particularly for powertrain and vehicle system level models 
•    Experience developing thermal management systems in electric vehicles
•    In-depth knowledge and design experience of cooling circuit and heat exchangers 
•    Solid thermodynamics background, particular on energy storage, exchange and recovery
•    Experience with CAD software (e.g., PTC Creo)
•    Excellent documentation, presentation and interpersonal skills
•    Self-motivated for challenges and innovations


Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Proficiency with Matlab coding and/or other programming languages

 

 

Education

B.S. or M.S. (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering or Thermodynamics related fields.
