Powertrain After-Sales Engineer


Requisition Summary

Current Product Engineer focused on PACCAR engines will work at the PACCAR Technical Center in Mount Vernon, Washington. We are looking for an ambitious individual who will thrive in a high performance team supporting world-class products.


Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Identify, analyze, define, and communicate service issues for solution development
  • Act as a technical liaison between the PACCAR field organization and Product Development, Quality, and Manufacturing organizations
  • Lead the Powertrain After-Sales team in e-Powertrain product improvements, including battery electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles and fuel cell electric vehicles.
  • Support root cause identification of e-Powertrain and internal combustion engine failures through in-depth data analysis and testing
  • Guide the disassembly, inspection and measurement processes to determine root cause of e-Powertrain, internal combustion engine and powertrain component failures
  • Track and communicate solution development and implementation
  • Support solution validation planning and execution
  • Provide direction and technical guidance to field service personnel
  • Provide on-site customer support as required
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support for e-Powertrain, internal combustion engine and aftertreatment systems
  • Leverage outside resources and work cross-functionally with other groups to solve customer engine and aftertreatment system issues as they arise
  • Effectively communicate with dealership personnel, field service, and other experts
  • Consult with subject matter experts to establish detailed information needed for problem resolution



  • 3+ years relevant work experience in heavy duty vehicles, including battery electric, hybrid electric, diesel engine design, testing or field service
  • Competency in tribology, fatigue wear mechanisms and analysis.
  • Competency in electrical circuit design, troubleshooting and battery fundamentals
  • High-Voltage vehicle certification preferred.
  • Experience interacting with and interpreting large datasets
  • Statistical methods and applications to engineer problems
  • Understand diesel engine and aftertreatment design and operation
  • Self-directed, excellent analysis skills and engineering judgment required
  • Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively
  • Organized and disciplined with ability to manage workload and project demands
  • Understanding of problem solving process and six-sigma tools
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.



  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or other appropriate field, MS preferred.
