HiL Development Supervisor Job

The HiL Development Supervisor will lead a team of engineers responsible for design, build and maintenance of full system Hardware in the Loop test benches for Heavy Vehicle Embedded Control Systems.  The role is responsible for managing the group workload and work processes, identifying new test bench capabilities, constructing bench development plans, metrics reporting and ensuring development of test capabilities to support test engineering needs.  The supervisor will promote a collaborative team environment, play an active role in day to day development efforts and manage group resources to achieve department objectives.

Leadership and Direction:


  • Performs as a team player, supporting and carrying out higher level decisions in a positive manner
  • Fosters a team environment – coaches personnel to work together to resolve issues, share knowledge and abilities, and foster independent decision-making as part of the overall team strategy.
  • Schedules group activities and resolves resource conflicts
  • Actively looks for new ideas, trends, and technologies that will allow PACCAR to enhance the test capabilities and/or reduce costs
  • Manages resources to balance workload between projects and programs


Employee Performance and Development:


  • Works with staff to establish annual goals. Reviews personnel performance for progress and improvement. Counsels and develops personnel to exceed expectations
  • Prepares and conducts annual performance reviews for each direct report
  • Ensures staff receives appropriate training for safety and equipment operation


Project Management:


  • Develop, track and report bench and software development related metrics
  • Coordinates with other department roles to manage group resources to complete department tasks.
  • Responsible for new feature development of automation frameworks and bench capabilities.
  • Identifies testing optimization opportunities by leveraging emerging tools and technologies.
  • Leads processes improvements through Six Sigma development methods.
  • Continuously improves capabilities and refines feature sets of existing automation framework

Education and Work Experience:


  • BS degree in appropriate engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience.
  • Proven ability to lead in a team environment
  • Excellent technical and communication skills
  • Ability to manage personal workload and willingness, flexibility and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands 
  • An in depth knowledge of PACCAR electrical and electronic components, their software, and CAN communication protocols. 


Qualifications & Skills


  • BS Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, Computer Science or Computer Engineering or strongly related field
  • Familiarity with Controller Area Network (CAN) operation, especially J1939
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience with dSpace ControlDesk
  • Experience with Vector CAN tools or industry equivalent
  • Ability to work well in a team environment 
  • Ability to summarize complex technical issues simply and communicate effectively 
  • Ability to manage personal workload and willingness, flexibility and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands 
  • Strong presentation skills

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington.
