Position Summary:
The PUMA Technical Specialist will work at PACCAR’s Engine Test Laboratory (ETL) in Mount Vernon, Washington.  This position will work in the ETL developing, testing, and validating the tools needed for development of PACCAR powertrain systems.  Key responsibilities include using and improving current test cell automation tools and serving as a coordinator of new software by being a mentor to the technical staff.

The PACCAR Technical Center is celebrating its 40th year of providing engineering excellence to the PACCAR truck, powertrain, and winch divisions through innovative product development and testing. Located in the beautiful Skagit Valley, about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington, PTC’s world-class engineering, simulation and validation facility is equipped with state-of-the-art product development and validation capabilities and staffed with industry leading experts in powertrain and vehicle development.


The PACCAR Technical Center also partners with government agencies and academic institutions to evaluate future vehicle technologies.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Support PACCAR’s organizations by supplying and improving the testing tools used for calibrating, evaluating, and validating new engine and aftertreatment hardware and software
  • Identify and implement processes to improve the quality and efficiency of powertrain testing, and data processing in the ETL
  • Work with PACCAR colleagues to align EU and US powertrain testing procedures
  • Improve existing test protocols to increase automation and test cell utilization
  • Assist in commissioning of PUMA 2.0 software and its implementation within the ETL
  • Develop methods to align test protocol, data processing tools and testing methods
  • Mentor ETL staff regarding cell and engine operation, data analysis, and quality validation
  • Keep abreast of new technologies


Required Qualifications & Skills (Including Education)

  • AAS or equivalent degree in related field
  • Minimum 15 years work experience performing powertrain testing
  • Proficiency using AVL test cell automation systems and data analysis (PUMA and CONCERTO)
  • Knowledge of diesel engine and exhaust aftertreatment system operation and control systems
  • Ability to work with all ETL staff, fostering teamwork and employee development
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills


Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Test cell experience performing heavy-duty on-highway engine development for 5 years or more
  • Experience with PACCAR engine and aftertreatment development tools
  • Working knowledge of PACCAR products
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience
